“Nicest Hotel I've Ever Stayed At”

I have nothing but incredibly fond memories of this hotel. My family and I spent time around New Years here. When we arrived at the hotel, we were well rested from a long overnight train ride we had just taken from Southern Italy. The hotel was happy to hold out luggage while they finished getting our rooms ready. We immediately went out and explored. Upon our return, we checked into our rooms and I can honestly say, I wasn't expecting the rooms to be as gorgeous as they were. The suite I stayed in was an apartment style room - living room, very large bathroom, and two bedrooms. The beds made you feel like you were sleeping on clouds. There was also plenty of closet space, if necessary.
We spent some time in the gym/sauna they have there. It's kept beautifully and even the other visitors seemed to want to keep it in the nicest condition possible.
After spending a few days there, we had developed a rapport with the gentleman that worked as the concierge. I believe we were known as the unusually large, crazy family from New York City. On New Years Eve, the concierge was genuinely concerned for our safety when we told him we were going to go out and join in the local celebration. He gave us all sorts of tips to make sure we stayed out of trouble. Don't let this deter you - it was a thoroughly enjoyable New Years Eve Experience.
This hotel is just about smack-dab in the middle of Vienna, right in the center of everything you could possibly want to do.

“Definitely recommending”

I stayed there with my Mom in January for a long weekend from Friday to Monday. We were both very happy that we stayed at this hotel, in terms of location, quality and view of the room (we had a perfect Cathedral view, thanks to the very kind & helpful person at the reception) and breakfast (loads of choice for every taste). Compared to many hotels I stayed in several cities in Europe, I believe our stay was a very good price. Also, I was quite suprised how new the inside decoration was, considering it looked quite an old hotel from the outside, it seems like they had a renovation very recently.
As an only improvement point, I can say as our room had a Cathedral view (Stephansplats Cathedral) and it was quite bright during the night because of the ligtings of the Cathedral and the hotel itself, I wish the curtains of our bedroom were be a bit thicker. As a person quite sensitive to the light in the bedroom I had a bit of problem in falling asleep as the bedroom was quite bright in my standards (it was perfectly OK for my mom so maybe its just me), but it might not be the case for the bedrooms not having the Cathedral view.

“Great Location”

Located right across from the cathedral on the pedestrian street with the subway entrance directly in front makes this a perfect location for a stay in Vienna. We walked or took the train everywhere, even to and from the airport. The hotel is very nice with a good breakfast. There was a mix up with our room when we first arrived but it was corrected when we brought the problem to their attention. We paid extra for a room facing the cathedral which we reqreted because of the lights and the noise. We would definitely stay here again but would get a room on the inside of the hotel so we could sleep better.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street and cathedral.

“Fantastic hotel, fantastic location”

We stayed at Hotel Am Stephansplatz 13-16 Jan 12.
We arrived early and our room was not ready, but they allowed us to leave our bags while we went for a walk. We returned and our check in was quick, effieciant and easy, Horl Oliver on reception was friendly and for our inconvienience he upgraded us to a room over looking the cathedral.
We stayed in room 604, a corner room which had a great view, and from our bed we looked straight out at the cathedral and views of the street, we had our curtains open of a night and went to sleep with the impressive cathedral looming over us.
I was extremly impressed with the room, it had an abundence of plugs, free wi-fi, good lighting, spotlessly clean and well maintained. When the room had been made up there were sweets/treats left on the pillow, a nice touch. The room had a mini bar, good local information, safe, lots of wardrobe space and very comfortable bed. We had a table and 2 chairs, and think the size of the room for the hotels location was impressive.
The bathroom was again spotlessly clean, and for a change, shower gels and soap you actually want to use. It had a bath with shower attachment as well as a seperate shower cubicle. Again the space used in the bathroom and the amenities it had were very impressive.
All windows in the room had outside electric black out blinds. I cant say highly enough the standard of the room.
Breakfast was adequate with pastries, fruit, cold meats, cheeses, with hot eggs & sausages. Although basic we found it great and set us up until dinnertime. Again with a nice view of the cathedral. The hotel has a small cafe which offered drinks/ snacks.
We would like to say thank you to Zekai Akbal on the front desk for his helpfulnesss, good local knowledge and great recommendations for restaurants
The hotels location is spot on, right in the centre, within walking distance of everything you would want to see/ visit in Vienna. The underground train station to get to other places around the city is literally 2 mins from the hotel front door. The hotel has been built with lots of ecologically friendly touches, all of which is explained in your room info.
Do not let the the hotels exterior put you off as once inside its an absoulute hidden gem and deserves its place as the number one hotel on trip adviser. My partner had stayed in the Hilton Vienna with work the previous week, and I spent 1 night there, and I can honestly say Hotel Am Stephansplatz left the Hilton standing!
Hotel Am Stephansplatz far exceeded our expectations for a 4* hotel in such a wonderful, but expensive city, we will definately be returning here and can not reccommend this hotel highly enough and am happy to answer any questions if your considering this hotel in Vienna.

Room Tip: Go for a room at the front, overlooking the cathedral, higher up the better.

“Still excellent”

Its not many times I return to the same hotel I the city as I am always keen for a change and to see what else is on offer but I couldn't resist when it comes to Vienna. The location is second to none, the staff are very helpful, the room is a great size and overall it is just wonderful. The only small negative for me is that we were given a smoking room. Although every effort had been made to disguise the smell, as a non smoker, I could still smell smoke very faintly and unfortunetly I realised that most of Europe still has to cater for these people. Make sure you check this when making the booking.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a non smoking room
