“Comfortable, affordable and good location”

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Nestroy for our anniversary weekend in November and we're very happy with our choice.

It started out on the wrong foot, but the kind man working reception quickly fixed things. I had initially arranged to have sparkling wine and chocolates waiting for us in our room upon arrival (as a nice little surprise for my wife), though the first room keys that were given to us led us to an already occupied room with an understandably startled French couple promptly telling us to leave. After getting new room keys, I was then a bit upset that our new room didn't have the chocolates and wine that I had asked for. After a brief chat with the front desk, complementary wine and chocolates were sent to our room!

Other than that, I have nothing to complain about. The hotel is only about a 15 minute walk from the river, which is essentially the gateway to everything you'll want to do and see in Vienna. The breakfast was wonderful, plus our room had a balcony connected to a large interior balcony that each room shared - very beautiful! They even served late night snacks at the bar downstairs until around 12. Though I must admit, only use this as a last resort - I ordered an 8€ pizza that I swear came right out of the freezer section at the local supermarket.

All in all a great stay at a great price. Probably saved about 40€/night by adding that 15 min walk to our morning. A great deal!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony.

“Stolen pieces from room”

I would not advise anyone to go to this hotel! During my stay two pieces of clothing were taken away from my room. Not only this felt very bad, but the way the staff reacted or actually did not react was shameful. They even said that I should have locked my clothes in the locker! The manager was not reachable by phone they said and they did not want to contact the cleaning lady untill the next day (when I had to leave). I have never experienced such a thing ever before!

“Comfortable room, good location, helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Three nights here prompted by the good reviews on Tripadvisor. I'd paid for a standard room but the one I got was very spacious - when I checked out I asked, and it turned out I'd been upgraded - so YMMV, but I had a very pleasant stay. The room had a bedroom and small powder room upstairs, with skylight type angled windows, and a living area with the main bathroom downstairs, including plenty of space for my laptop and similar. The location was convenient, a little out of the city centre but easily walkable along a shopping strip, which has a supermarket with a large wine section :-) - Vienna has excellent public transport and is a very walkable city in any case, and you'll need the walking to avoid the Wiener Schnitzel going straight to your waistline. I didn't have breakfast here because there were plenty of cheaper options in the form of bakeries and cafes nearby. The staff are helpful with directions and things to do. If I come back to Vienna I'd stay here again, though it almost seemed a waste having such a big room to myself - I'll have to bring someone next time!

Room Tip: The ones on the top floor are spacious and have plenty of natural light.

“Very fair value”

This place was very good value for money. The rooms were comfortable (we had a suite for 3 people), breakfast was as good as we'd had across Europe.
Staff were ok - probably didn't go out of their way to help suggest places to visit as we'd experienced from other hotels across Europe, but certainly were good when asked specific questions.

Location is near two subway stations and is a fair stroll from the main areas of the city, for those that don't mind a walk to explore.

“Faulty towers of Vienna!”

An unpleasant stay of only a few hours! We were booked into a standard double and upon checkin we were offered an upgrade to a 'junior suite' for €30 per night which we took. I will put it this way - I can't imagine what the standard room is like if they consider the room we had a 'junior suite'. It was not big by any means, only heat worked on the air conditioning (no cooling), no opening windows, only doors onto a communal balcony which we did not feel safe leaving open to have ventilation, tiny shower and to top it off, a leaking pipe in the bathroom!

The ony staff member here that helped us was Florian. The others basically rolled their eyes at us every time they saw us.

I was fed up after just a few hours and requested to be moved to the Imlauer hotel adjacent (both hotels are part of Imlauer group and share lobby, restaurant etc.) which was much nicer and comfortable ith opening windows!

Room Tip: Opt for a room in the newer Imlauer hotel adjacent as the standard rooms are very nice and comfortab...

Dear value guest,

Thank you very much for sharing your impressions of your stay with us here on tripadvisor.com.

First of all I would like to apologize for the inconveniences described.

Of course, our junior suites are bigger then our double rooms – the average sice of our junior suites is about 35-40m” and is also equipped with “Superior-Amenities” like Coffe&Tea-making facilities, free botteled drinking water – refilled every day, Homes&Lifestyle Magazines, Slippers, Bathrobes, Beauty-kid and Bath-Salt. They also provide a private seating and working area as well as access to the balcony which is located very quiet.
I am sorry for the troubles with the window, but usually they can be opened well – AC is only available during summer time.
I apologize for the fact that the room you were allocated apparently did not meet the high standards our guest can rightly expect when staying at one of our hotels.

I also apologize for the attitude of our staff which was discussed already at our last meeting.

Please be assured, that the satisfaction of our guests is first priority to us and we do hope to welcome you again in one of our Imlauer Hotels in Vienna or Salzburg.

Best regards

Gerald Wlcek
