We stayed three nights at the Hotel de France over New Year with our 20 year old daughter and her partner. Not cheap but everything in walking distance and not bad for a big european city. We booked two rooms on top floor, both of which were really spacious, one a massive size and which were also very quiet. From our daughter's room we were able to look out over the fabulous fireworks display on New Year's night which was spectacular. The Hotel gave good recommendations for dinner in the city. We had the best breakfast buffet I had in all of Austria, they even cooked fresh eggs any way you wanted if you didn't want the ones on the buffet heating dishes. We had internet issues in the room when we arrived and the response was immediate with 3 people coming to our room to sort the problem within half an hour. Rooms were spotless and well serviced. The main old town area is literally just across the road. Location couldn't have been better especially for New Years Eve with the young folk needing to get in and out of the happenings in the old town quickly and safely.

The last day there we hired the hotel's driver/car for the day to take us to Mauthausen, the Nazi Concentration Camp memorial about 90 mins drive away. It was an amazing/sobering day and for the four of us a good budget alternative to hiring a car. For some reason there appear to be NO tours ( other than private ones) to this important site from Vienna itself and we never even saw it listed in the Main Tourist Information center in the city. We only found it by chance on a google search.

We (husband, 1 year old son and I) stayed here for 5 nights in Nov/Dec 2011. We travel alot and this hotel is a good all rounder, great location, nice rooms and helpful staff. Ok, the rooms are not the most modern of rooms they have a more traditional feel, quite like the city itself and compared to a 5 star in Dubai for example it doesn't compare but we were happy with it and the minibar was free too so quite a nice surprise. We did not eat at the restaurant as the menu didn't tempt us but it did look nice and was often busy. There were plenty of places to eat not too far away (within 10minutes walk or a short tram ride away). The tram station is just across from the hotel and so is the metro which was great. Everything you could want to see in Vienna is within easy reach from this hotel, even with a toddler who doesn't like to sit in his pram for very long! The breakfast was included when we booked, it was nice with enough variety and the staff there were lovely (especially Mimi who was very helpful & gave our little boy colouring books and crayons and was just his best friend each morning!). We would stay here again as its a great base to explore.

When visiting Vienna we stayed at the Hotel de France. The staff were lovely, the morning breakfast delicious, and the lobby of the hotel was lovely. We dined on the Christmas Eve buffet and it was also delicious. The location was ideal with very comfortable walking distance to all sights around Vienna. However, the rooms leave something to be desired and are in desperate need of a face lift. I would have expected much much more from a five star hotel. The internet, which you can purchase, worked in and out and was definitely not worth the money and frustration.

I stayed there with my fiancee for 3 nights on December 2011. We found a nice deal on their owner's web site, (Austria Hotels group web site, not the hotel's) paid 99 euros per night for 2 people including breakfast. The room was big enough for us with high ceiling and a nice clean bathroom inside. I noticed that they also have upgraded rooms but of couse not with the same price and there was no deal for them. Their breakfast was very nice too.

Vienna is an expensive city and expecially for accommodation, I was happy that I found that deal for this hotel. Their location is just 10 metres to the Subway, and 5 mins walking distance to the old city.

I strongly recommend this hotel for other travellers. Check the hotel's owner company's "Austria Hotels" web site you may find deals for other periods.
