I like to choose accommodation in the center. This hotel is on the main street. All the main attractions are within walking distance (except those attractions which are not in the center, for example Schloss Schönbrunn).
Hotels states that they have wireless internet in all hotel but it is not true. Wi-Fi doesn’t work in all rooms. It seems it work only in the room near elevator. So please call the hotel before booking.
I think that the hotel is a bit overpriced but I think that this is because it is situated right on the main street. Previously I stayed in another hotel in the small street so I will suggest searching also for another hotel in the smaller street. They are cheaper sometimes. But in April’11 all good hotel in the smaller street was booked or had to higher price than Astoria. So compare carefully.
Do not forget to visit Figl Muller restaurant and taste great sausages just in the streets.

We travelled to Vienna in December mainly for the christmas markets for the second time in three years. The hotel was in a fantastic location right in the heart of inner Stadt on its main shopping street Karntner Strasse. The hotel was about 30-40 minutes from the airport cost about 35-40 euro by taxi, there is a train into the centre but you still have to get to the hotel.

The hotel is old no frills with tired decor, the staff on reception were great as they were throughout our stay. Rooms were of generous proportion with a small balcony which overlooked the front of the hotel. Everything was clean and practical the rooms a little bit to warm (no aircon). Bathroom was a good size but ventilation was poor ( small extract of a central system) The room had no tea or coffee making facilities with a small mini bar. We did not eat in the hotel as the facilities were limited but loads of restaurants around the area more than made up fpr this.

The main reason we chose the hotel was the location we were not dissapointed. At the end of the street was the magnificent Stephensdom Catherdral round the corner was the imperial palace Hofburg. All around you have fairy tale streets which you could spend all day wandering. The people were all friendly and helpful, we had no problem finding directions.

A small warning we purchased tickets for a concert from vendor dressed in capes outside the opera house.We assumed the tickets were for the opera but it turned out to be for a different venue and the cost 60 euro per head.The venue was in the stadt park Kursalon a large room with a lot of history connected to Strauss brothers. The concert was very good and most enjoyable we had a great night. All in all I would recommend this no frills style hotel with friendly staff.

We loved this hotel! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They allowed us to check in at 12:30 in the afternoon which was nice as we had been traveling all day.

Stayed in Astoria for 1 night. During my reservation I asked for early check in for me and my friends (we rented 6 rooms in the hotel). Everybody recieved their rooms at 09-00 as we asked for without any extra chrge!The room was big, in typical Vienna style, with picture of the opera theatre on the wall.Breakfast was very good.It would be perfect if the hotel will include tea and coffee making facility in the room.
