We stayed here for 3 days on a Great Rail Journeys trip and, along with all our fellow travellers, found the hotel below our expectations. Our bedroom was very compact, with air conditioning which did not seem to function, other than to keep the room unacceptably warm. The decor was tired and scruffy and our shower cabinet leaked alarmingly (although this was fixed incredibly quickly when we complained to the receptionist). We did find the reception staff to be responsive and efficient but overall there was a lack of visible management. We suffered two quite abysmal evening meals, with dull and unimaginative food served in a dull and uninspiring annexe to th emain restaurant. On the other hand, breakfast was plentiful, varied and of good quality and served by pleasant staff.
The location of the hotel is a little way out of the most attractive part of the city centre and not in the most attractive area. Whilst this is not a bad hotel it lacks the quality and character to make staying there positively memorable.
