My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Weisses Kreuz May 24-26 as a base for his work and my tag-along. The hotel was pretty easy to find and is in a great location. It's a short walk up the hill to the historic sites and a short walk down the hill to the lake and the shops.
We arrived early, but they still let us check in. We were in room 108 and it was a nice room to have because it had a porch off the room which was nice for sitting on and relaxing in the fresh air. The room was very clean, the beds comfortable and the breakfast in the morning in the dining room was absolutely amazing. A true Austrian buffet with fruit, sausage, cheese, eggs, breads, granola, milk, juice, etc. and the strongest coffee it should be legal to serve.
The only downside of the hotel would be that it is a but confusing for americans. When we got in the room we couldn't figure out how to turn on the lights. It turns out, quite cleverly, that you put your room key in a card reader on the inside of the door when you are in the room and that gets and keeps the lights going. A very clever way to save energy. The coffee maker and the shower were also a bit confusing, but the staff are very helpful. The only other bummer was we had problem with out internet connection, which in our case was a problem. The staff's English was fairly rudimentary and our German was poor, so that didn't help things any.
The restaurant was closed during our stay (Austrian holiday) but th, Gasthof Goldener Hirsch was across the back courtyard, and the food was amazing.
The great location, helpful staff, and fabulous breakfast make this a great choice for any traveler coming to Bregenz for business or pleasure.
