We went into the Erika unintentionally, as out first choice hotel, the Tiefenbrunner, was overbooked (or so they said.) The overall experience with the Erika was good, although there were some drawbacks, probably the mian one being lack of air conditioning - a problem in the warmer months as it could be very stuffy at night. Also, the rooms have very thin curtains which let the light shine through at 5am! We didn't find noise an issue, as the road traffic dies down considerably in the late evening, but Kitzbuhel has more than its fair share of chuch bells, which peal with relish from early morning to late at night. Sometimes they produce a veritable medley of tunes lasting several minutes!
Breakfast was the usual continental fare: cereals, fruit, yoghurt and various cold meats, cheese, sausages, scrambled eggs and bacon that isn't really bacon in the British definition. Tea and coffee were served rapidly and efficiently.
Dinner was served from 7pm and consisted of up to five courses: a salad buffet, a starter, soup, main course and dessert. The buffet mainly consisted of potato salad, beans, sauerkraut and lettuce, with tuna occasionally - OK but rather repetitive. The starter was often quite imaginative, well crafted and usually very delicious, as was the main course, of which was a choice of three: meat. fish and vegetarian. The soup was also of a high standard. Desserts were just as good, and you could also have ice cream or cheese if you wanted a change. Overall the food was of an excellent standard.
Unfortunately the TV only had two English language channels: BBC World and CNN. This was really not acceptable, as a hotel of this standard and price range should have offered more.
Given the relatively high price of staying at the Erika, what was offered was rather less than I would have expected, especially with regard to the lack of air conditioning and poor choice of English language TV channels, but then again this is very much a family hotel catering to the well-to-do older clientele (most guests were in the 55+ age range). However, the staff were all very friendly and showed genuine concern for the guests, and the owners clearly made a great effort to ensure that service was of a high standard, which it certainly was.
