We just celebrated my birthday in Innsbruck on 26th-27th December 2011. we all stayed at the Leipzigerhof, which was delightful in every way. Reception was friendly and informative. The rooms were very pleasant and well-equiped. The Reception and Restaurant staff provided champagne glasses and table decorations to make the day special and they also took the trouble to offer best wishes. Just a 10-15 minute walk from the Old Town and 5 minutes from the station, the situation is good too. Right on the tram stop too. Highly recommended - we will return soon. I also recommend the Schwartzer Adler Restaurant where my birthday dinner took place. Excellent food, service and ambiance. Innsbruck itself was a lovely place for the Christmas season and everything was great - except for the arrogant staff at the Cafe Sacher near the Golden Roof. They refused our request to let our party sit at one of three nice tables because they needed to prepare them for dinner ( at 4pm ???). Either they have the slowest staff in the world or they just could not be bothered and they showed no concern that we walked out. Give this high-priced, supercilious place a miss and have your Sacher Torte in any one of a number of much more friendly cafes in the Old Town.
