My daughter and I stayed at the Meierhof annex of Schloss Leopoldskron during our "Sound of Music" "pilgrimage." It was so exciting to walk the grounds where part of the movie was filmed. The hotel's location is not convenient, but there was a nice Italian restaurant we enjoyed across the lake. We were told that one must attend a conference to stay in Leopoldskron, so we stayed in Meierhof, which we were not forewarned had bedrooms like an army barracks. Spartan is a good operative word (dim lighting, no pictures on the walls, gray iron beds that looked as if they might have been brought in from a prison). It would have been funny if we hadn't paid so much for the room. BUT the grounds were lovely and just the knowledge that we were on "SOM" ground (or next door to it) was enough for us. The next morning, we had a delicious and beautifully spread breakfast in the Schloss. Later we were picked up right at our door for a wonderful Sound of Music tour (our hotel was one of the sites on the tour). It made us feel rather special to be staying there :-) Despite the disappointing room, at least we got to stay there - memories we will never forget! (I am late leaving this review. We actually traveled in June of 2009. It got quite warm in the room and we had to ask for a fan. No A/C, but we knew that ahead of time). I hated to give a low rating, but paying that much for barracks room was quite a disappointment.
