We booked a room in one of the suites in the main Schloss. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Buffet breakfast was served in one of the halls of the palace and the selection was quite good.

One of the downsides of the hotel was the distance to the city centre (~half an hour walk). Our room also had a shower-over-bath which had a partition wall that leaked so that by the time one had finished one's shower, there was a lake in the bathroom. There is also no kettle for making tea/coffee in the room. For the amount paid for a suite, you really are paying for the experience of staying at 'The Sound of Music' palace. Alternatively there is the option of one of the rooms across the driveway, which costs substantially less and is probably more value for money.

Not the most accessible location to see Salzburg, but we were delighted to have stayed here at least once as we are SOM fans.

The rooms are really only okay, definitely not matching up to our unrealistic dreamy fantasies of what a room in a schloss may be like. Comfortable considering we only went back to sleep, and adequate.

Breakfast was one of the main highlights. The Venetian Room was breakthtaking and the spread was decent. Exploring the main building was fun and the library in particular was so charming and tranquil. We spent the most languid morning admiring the gorgeous lake, just taking in the view and humming SOM songs.

Will not stay here again because of the location, one time is good enough to create beautiful memories. If you choose to stay here, hopefully you have more time in Salzburg and therefore do not mind a bit more travelling, and your stay will not be complete unless you spend some time sitting by the lake.

My family spent there just 1 night and day, but we were amazed mostly because of the beautiful surrounding and Salzburg sightseeing- the hotel is OK (not the highest quality equipment, but it somehow was not the most important). The hotel has private closed during the night parking. We felt safe there and a bit like in older times:-) Breakfast was very good, in the breathtaking ballroom. I highly recommend taking a walk to the city center from Schloss - wonderful experience!

We are a family of 4 my wife and I and our 2 sons (10 and 8 yrs old) We arrived at the Schloss Leopoldskron mid day and we were the only guests who stayed on that side of the hotel. Reception was quick and easy. When we reached our suite in the Palace we were amazed on how beautiful the palace was. Our room was extremely large and clean. It did require some "fixing" as there were a couple of visible cracks on the walls and ceiling. But were were not buying the place so it really did not matter to us.
We had the palace to ourselves. We toured the every room and it was like we were living in a museum. The main dining room and library were were outstanding. The kids loved the secret passage and internet in the library.
The grounds were spectacular! We had our diner on the back terasse over looking the lake with the mountains in the background. It was one of the most wonderful views we have ever had.
The kids and my wife loved (myself also) reenacting scenes from SOM all day through out the Palace.
I would rate the palace as one of the best places we have ever visited as in itself it was a landmark.
