I was looking for a reasonably priced hotel near the city centre. Based on previous recommendations I hit upon the Drei Kreuz.
This property is well located. It is close to the bus lines, about 5 minutes walk from the bus stops, and about 15 walk mins from the river.
Breakfast is good.
The best thing about this property is that the lady at the reception was so friendly, warm and informative, that she made Salzburg the best city I stayed during my 10 days tour in Austria. Austrian courtesy at its very best.
The bathrooms are big considering the price-range this hotel is in.

The location is ok, a nice 15 minutes walk to the historic center, but also a bus station around the corner.
The staff was very helpful.
The room was ok. (the only thing I didn't like so much was that the furniture is a little bit dated).
They have a parking place across the street.

We had difficulty booking a hotel in Salzburg and settled on the Drei Kreuz after several rejections from other hotels. That was over 3 months before our arrival. The Hotel Drei Kreuz is dated and the room was "no frills", just basic accommodation and breakfast (for an additional EU7.00). Nonetheless, the Manageress and her Reception Colleague were extremely friendly and provided precise down-to-earth tourist advice. The location wasn’t bad, being a 20 minute walk to the old town. We easily accessed the hotel from the Train Station by taking the bus. Breakfast was pleasant and plentiful, with waiting staff zealously collecting our plates as we finished (sometimes over-enthusiastically). Not the most glamorous hotel we ever stayed in but the staff are real and kind. Hotels in Salzburg appear to be more expensive than other cities (e.g. Vienna, Munich, Rome), and hence I would say that the rate was reasonable when compared to similar Salzburg hotels.

This is fine for a very short stay on a relative budget because salzburg is more expensive than other cities we visited and seems to offer less "deals" than Munich, Prague or Vienna.
The staff at the hotel could be rated higher than the hotel itself as they were friendly, helpful and were the highlight of our 2 night visit.
The cheap rooms at the back of the hotel are quiet (which is what we wanted) whereas the better rooms at the fron t could be noisy with a busy road immediately outside.
Our rooms were the cheaper option but it was very small (more like a student room ) and better suited for one person.
The bed was small for 2 ordinary sized people and would not accomodate 2 people at 90 kilos each.
The bed sheets were very old and need replacing; the curtains were paper thin.
BUT a few changes and this hotel could offer people just what they need in salzburg; an economic alternative within walking distance of the city and with free parking.
If the owners respnd to conctructive comments like this then they will find their ratings climb considerably.
At the moment I wiuld not go back and would only recommend it for those on a tight budget who are small people and are not satying for more than a couple of days; the front bedroom customers might take a completely different view of the Drei Kreuz though.
