We were very pleased with our stay at the Hotel Goldene Ente in Salzburg. It is in a great location in the heart of the old part of the city, very close to everything. We rented a suite with our 3 children and found the room to be very Clean and comfortable.

The hostess who ran the hotel was wonderful and a real pleasure to deal with, nothing was too much trouble.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay in a beautiful small hotel right in the middle of Salzburg. The restaurant downstairs also serves very good meals.

This is just a number of very basic, furnished rooms, with a very central location, but hardly anything else.
The acoustic comfort is terrible: every single move of the elevator can be felt in the rooms. The noise of customers arriving and departing interrupts your sleep. My shower was badly in need of some serious cleaning. Breakfast is very sad: coffee from a dispenser, packaged biscuits and snacks, no fresh juice, all served in a room lit and decorated for a interrogation scene from a low budget east german police series.
My main complaint is the smell of the downstairs restaurant. The vents of the kitchen lead into the stairwell and invade everything.
At the price asked for a single room - well over 100 euro - this sums up as very bad value indeed.

Having seen the hotel's location on a previous visit, we decided that it would be ideal for a visit to the Christmas Market (less than 200 metres away)
The rooms were spotless, if a little on the small size, and comfortable.
Breakfast was enjoyable with enough for any appetite.
The real joy was Ulrika - who ran the whole operation like a well oiled clock. She was a mine of information and nothing was too much trouble.
The restaurant below the hotel is not owned by the hotel, but Ulrika would gladly get a reservation for you, and the food and service there were excellent.
The hotel is a little quirky and would not be favoured by those who like big intenational chains. Those who like small, simple hotels will enjoy it - and you fall out of the front door into the old town.

Stayed here for the night with my fiancee and future in laws and we were absolutely delighted with the quality of the rooms, service and breakfast.
Our hostess was wonderful from the moment we arrived - it was extremely hectic when we arrived as the restaurant was full and it was busy because of the Christmas markets.
The location was fantastic - literally 30 paces from the Cathedral Square in a very 'gemuetlich' little alleyway. It couldn't have felt more Christmassy
I would also recommend getting a reservation for dinner in the restaurant as well - this was our last night of a trip to Munich and Austria and the food served here was by far the best on our trip
Do give this place a try - pay a bit more for a superior room as well, it's well worth it
