My sister, my niece, my daughter and I recently went to Europe. Our first stop was Salzberg. We picked this hotel because the day we checked out we had to catch a train to Venice. This hotel is only a few blocks from the station, so we were able to walk there with our luggage. It is a beautiful hotel. Very modern. We had two rooms, and they were both very clean. They serve a fantastic breakfast! One of the best I have seen. Everything was so fresh. Great scrambled eggs, yogurt, breads, cereals, meats, etc.
It is a bit of hike to walk the historic center of the city, but possible. We did take a Sound of Music Tour with Bob's Tours http://www.bobstours.com/som. It was a small van that sat eight. There is another tour company that uses large buses. I am so glad that we chose the small van. We had a fantastic driver. In our van, it happened to be all mothers and daughters - the first time our driver has had that! By going in the small van, our driver was able to drive us up into the countryside - something the big bus can't do. We stopped at an alpine slide where my niece and daughter went on. We stopped at a little coffee shop overlooking a beautiful lake and we all had a dessert. The trip was very memorable. From Salzburg, we took a train to Venice. It was so beautiful going through all the Vineyards. A good option to flying. Stayed at the Ca San Rocco.

The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the Salzburg HBF (at least 20 minutes to main area of interest) and is located in a quiet area. Room was clean and although there was no air conditioning, the room was comforatable. Bathroom was small and the toilet was seperate from the rest of the bathroom and it was a style I had not seen before (very odd). The room did come with a nice little balcony, the wifi was good, there was a safe in the room but no mini fridge. The bed was a little soft for my liking (but relatively ok) and the queen bed had 2 single douvets instead of one - perhaps an Austrian thing. Also the check in and check out was rather quick but we did have to wait until 3 pm to check in (we arrived at 1:30 pm).

Overall, I have never heard of a 4 star hotel with no air conditioning, no mini fridge with a small bathroom, but I did enjoy he stay - think of it as a good 3 star. So my rating is based on the hotels 4 star rating (I would have given it a higher rating as a 3 star). But don't let that discourage you from staying here unless you plan to go in the warmest months (and require air conditioning) as I would stay here again if the price was right.

This hotel is confusingly also called the Best Western Parkhotel. It feels like a business hotel but suited us very well. It's set back from the road and our well-equipped room looked over the garden at the back. Helpful staff and excellent choice of food at breakfast. It's less than 10 minutes walk from the station and buses. Salzburg is very attractively set on a river between two hills, and if you walk (west) from the hotel to the river you can walk to the centre along the riverside path, which has fine views - about 30 minutes to the cathedral.

We arrived at this hotel due to the good offices of Heidi at the other Best Western in Stalzburg. The hotel was lovely, service excellent, the breakfast was a great one and the dinner menu excellent.
It is near transportation and a laundromat

However, you probably wouldn't find it without help if arriving by train but a short taxi ride is well worth it
