“Amazing hotel, probably the best I ever been!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

I recently stayed at this hotel with my girlfriend for 3 nights. My impression of this hotel goes much more onward than my original feeling at the time of the booking. Once we arrived, we were incredibly welcomed! Welcome drink and the gifl from the Front Office (Teresa) was absolutely kind and clear to explain everything about the hotel. Once we enjoyed the drink she showed us the room and here we have the first wonderful surprise; upgrade to the 'castle suite'. Probably the best room I slept in all my life; wonderful interior design and luxury materials all around. The room style reflects the Salzburg old style and it seems like to live again in the 18th century. The bath was enormous, large bath and huge shower. 2 sinks, bidet and wc. Also a huge cloakroom very helpful for long stays. The view from the room was terrific, dominating all Salzburg and offered us memorable panoramas, that for sure I will remember for the rest of my life. The room has everything; amazing TV LCD by Bang & Olufsen, minibar, safe, very large seating area and sofa, Sutton & Foster bath products, hairdryer. Everynight, when they do the evening room make-up we had one Mozarttaler (Mozartkugel) and a very nice good night message. Breakfast in the morning was very good; buffet is not very big but you can order a lot of dishes (free of charge) from the à la carte menu. The lady at breakfast was absolutely adorable and very kind. The view from the restaurant was great.
The position of the hotel is very good, even if it's not in the old town (it's on a hill just up the old town). You just need to walk 5-6 minutes to the Monchsberg lift and you get the old town very quickly. The lift is open until 11 pm and the cost of it was kindly covered for entire by the hotel that offer free ticket to use it.
A modern and nice SPA makes also this hotel special; sauna and hammam with a fitness center too are available 24 hours daily!! All the staff is incredible helpful, kind and all this makes your stay absolutely memorable. Once I paid the bill they delivered to me a little present, a confection of homemade marmalade.

My general opinion on this hotel is absolutely 5 out of 5! I will come back one day, for sure! Probably it is the best hotel and location I ever been.

“Classy, overpriced, oddly mechanical”

Be in no doubt, this is a very good hotel in a superb location, rendered exclusive by its absurd pricing. €25 for a middling cooked breakfast tells you what this is all about, and €140 a head for the New Years Eve extravaganza seemed more than slightly excessive. Included in the price you still get families with very small, very noisy children, but no coffee-making facilities in the room.

The location is very, very difficult to find by road, but worth the effort; the hotel and its surroundings are exquisitely beautiful - though I find it hard to believe that the main building itself is even remotely original. The fabled lift down to the Altstadt is a long walk away - and not well signposted. It is not free and a return ticket costs €3.20, although if you show your hotel key you might sometimes get waived through. Or if you ask at the hotel reception desk after paying, they might tell you that you should have asked them for a free voucher. How very silly of me not to have known that in advance.

The wifi is intermittent and weak, but free. The restaurant is well located and serves food to a good standard - though Room Service was very, fery poor by any standards. Our room was large, stylish and immaculately presented, though at €370 a night I would have expected nothing less.

And now the odd bit; this hotel has no apparent character. I have stayed in castles from Normandy to Transylvania (including several in Germany, such as the Godesberg in Bad Godesburg) and all of them exude a certain ambience. This hotel, on the other hand, might just as well have been a Holiday Inn or Hilton, and the Sheraton at nearby Munich Airport has a far more charming "alpine" feeling. This has the aura and ambience of an expensive clinic or spa, and once inside, you could be anywhere quite frankly.

Enjoyed it. Glad we came. Won't be back.

“A gem!!!”

As our taxi pulled up to the hotel, we were greeted by Aline, who escorted us into the bar to have a glass of champagne while she arranged our room and took care of our bags. An impressive welcome to a wonderful hotel! Clearly, while the breakfast buffet is terrific and the rooms nice, what makes this hotel outstanding is the people. We felt like we were the only two guests in the hotel. Everyone knew our name and were incredibly helpful. There is no other choie in Salzburg...you need to stay here!

“Superlative, sublime, my fav hotel in Saltzburg!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

This is up there as one of my top ten small hotels on the world! You really do feel as though you are the only guest and your slightest wish is their command from the moment you even approach the gates to this very private castle set above Saltzburg. There is an elevator that takes you up from the busy city street to the Modern Art Museum overlooking the whole area. A short walk through a peaceful wooded park brings you to the entrance to a world of utter indulgence. We did arrive by taxi from the airport and appreciated the drive up the tiny windy road and use of a pass for the elevator from then on!
Our room was near the top of a tower and had fantastic views on three sides. Bathroom had heated floors and all the extras you'd expect of a luxury hotel. Shower stall was small but that's being picky. The floors were heated which I really liked! Lovely fluffy duvets, one for each of us on a double twin king as they do it in Europe. Decor very tasteful and lovely lighting, candles if you prefer or feeling romantic.
I didnt use the spa but it looked wonderful and I'm sure would have been great if I'd had the time. Wi fi avaiable for free thankfully, who can live without it anymore?. I need my Skype FB and picassa accounts everywhere I go !
We had room service breakfast that was set up on the table in the sitting area off of the bedroom so we were particularly lazy getting up and stretched the morning munching through past lunch. They had very generous helpings of everything we ordered, beautifully plated and so fresh! I would have hated to see it go to waste had we needed to rush off out. We peeked into the restaurant where we shall make an appearance tomorrow morning. The tables were exquisietly set facing out big picture window overlooking the city down below.
Very quiet location after a busy day site seeing definitely an oasis sitting high above the city waiting for your return . Worth every penny if it's what you are prepared to pay for.
The concierge helped book train tickets for our onward journey to Vienna in the morning and organized a connecting transport to a boat we are boarding there. Boarding passes printed up ready and waiting when we check out. They really do want to be sure our whole experience in Austria goes smoothly, not just in their hotel. That really is service beyond the call of duty!

“Amazing in every way!”

Took my wife here for a special weekend and I was not disappointed where I choice to stay! The hotel staff truly takes care of you - from parking your car (even washing it if you request) to assisting with your luggage they really know how to treat you. You can't ask for a better location either. The hotel offers a relatively affordable spa that my wife enjoyed and great food (we enjoyed an wonderful breakfast meal in the morning). Our room was somewhat small for the price, but the bathroom made up for it - almost the same size as the room. I also love how the hotel does not "nickel and dime" you - a lot of amenities are included (valet parking & internet, among other things). It is somewhat difficult to find (the address listed on the website is NOT the physical address) -so ensure you call to get the GPS address ahead of time if you intend to drive. I truly recommend staying here!
