Stayed in single room (#45) at the Stieglbräu on a business trip. Room is depressingly small with a view onto the railroad tracks. There is constant noise from train traffic during the night. Windows aren't soundproof enough. The bed is very tiny and the mattress extremely hard and uncomfortable. The room and the bathroom were clean, sheets and towels spotless. No bad smells in the room. WLAN is free, signal strength and speed are ok.

We had dinner at the restaurant which serves good local food. Try the "Salzburger Nockerl" - they are huge and delicious. Breakfast buffet was also great with a large food selection. Coffee tasted a little bit weird - probably because they put it in thermos jugs which they put on the tables long before people arrive. Staff was professional and very friendly, from the receptionists to the waiters in the restaurants.

I would not stay there again because of two reasons: The extremely uncomfortable bed and the constant noise from the railroad.

Location is very good if you are arriving or departing by train as its only a 5 min walk away. The location for Salzburg old town is not quite as good but is only 10 mins from the outskirts with quite a few shops along the way. No noise in the rooms at all.

My only gripe, and a very minor one at that is that upon arrival in the room there is the usual tray of tea/coffee but no kettle. After much looking around for it we realised that we had to get one from reception. I can kind of understand it if the tea and coffee itself was also at reception, or if we were asked upon checking in whether we would like a kettle. I cant believe for a minute that customers prefer it this way in a 4* hotel? Its a bit like saying here are the bedsheets, but if you would like a mattress and pillows then you can get them from upon request!

Hotel restaurant was reasonably priced and the Goulash is reccomended!

We booked the Stieglbrau. Basically there are two hotels next to each other in the same chain (this and the Imlauer). We stayed on the Imlauer site. This is no problem as the hotels are adjoining and you can easily pass between them through a short corridor. The room was very good, as was the bathroom and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was plentiful and good quality. The location is perfect if you are using the train station as it is a short walk. Also easy walk into town. We had a very good rate over the Christmas period and it was a bargain!

I stayed two night in this nice hotel. Everything was right. Food, accomodation, frindly environment, etc. In general Best Wetern hotels in Europe is a good choice!!!
