“Terrible service and terrible managment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

I have to say that I was looking forward to this hotel. It was aptly named for me to meet my husband in. He lives in Germany and I live in Italy and it seemed the perfect place to meet for the weekend.

I arrived for the weekend about 5 hours before my husband. I was on some small country road that went straight up a mountain. My car slipped on the ice and went into a snowbank. It was 7:00 pm, pitch black out, and I couldn't see anything. I called the hotel and told them the problem. They said that some GPS's tend to take people that way, but it was the wrong way. Nothing about this was said on the website. They said I would have to walk or call someone to tow my car. I asked if someone could come get me since I was only 1 km down the hill, I was a single woman, it was cold and dark, and I didn't know where I was going. They refused. I climbed the hill. After a few hours the police found my car and one of the nice kitchen workers took me back to the car so I could get it out of the snowdrift.

One other issue that we had was in booking a tour. I asked the receptionist to book a tour for us. She told us that they would pick us up. I asked if we could meet the tour in Salzburg since it was a 15 min ride away and we would already be there. She told us that it would be better to have transportation. We did, we had a great tour, until the tour ended and there was no return transportation. We had to get a 20 euro taxi ride back to the hotel. When we mentioned the situation to the manager/owner, he got argumentative and said we didn't understand anything since we were Americans. Despite being offensive, I have taken tours in dozens of countries on 6 continents and I think that it would be mentioned that there is no return transport. We were simply asking them to tell the next people that book a tour the situation and instead we were accosted and treated terribly.

I think the room was quite nice, unfortunately none of the rooms have a view, but it was comfortable. The breakfast was quite good and we ate in the restaurant one night. Other than appalling wine, it was quite good though over-priced. The customer service was really terrible. I would recommend staying in Salzburg instead. I have done that before and the hospitality is better.

“what a disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2010

Don't bother. If your room number isn't in the 300's you will be extremely disappointed. the rooms starting with 3 have been remodeled the rest of the hotel is tired...down to the cigarette burned chairs in the bar/lounge area. The wait staff of the hotel restaurant were wonderfully kind. The front desk women were perhaps the worst I have encountered in my life. They couldn't care less about you. The exception was Nadine, she was wonderful and made an otherwise disappointing stay a bright spot. She should be promoted ... the other two women should be terminated. I stayed at nicer La Quinta hotels. The hotel could be a gem, but it needs a major overhaul and renovation of the property and the front desk staff. I've never paid so much and got so little!! Ritz prices super 8 quality.... except for the rooms starting with 3 .... those rooms were nicley done.

“All good except the service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2008

Just coming back from Die Gersberg Alm,
We choose the hotel for the location outside Salzburg.
Due to the festival we were lucky to find a room, I would have prefered the Shoene Aussicht but it was full.
The view is superb, the place is beautiful and there is a pool to relax after long walks in the mountains.
The restaurant is good but the carte is a bit limited.
Our only concern is the hotel service (not restaurant).
People are helpful but their English is often limited, the maid wake you up at 9:30 to clean the room without notice.
If you come back while there are inside and you want to use the bathroom, they don't care and go on.
Finally the service is not at the high of the bill.

“Wonderful place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2008

Our family of two adults and three children stayed here over Christmas. We were supposed to stay for 5 nights, but loved it so much that we stayed 1 extra night!

We had a double and a triple room. Both rooms looked out to a snowy perfect picture. Rooms were generous in size and simply, but nicely, furnished. The extra bed in the triple room was a sofa seat around the corner from the other beds, so gave our daughter a degree of privacy that she loved. That room also had doors that opened out to a lovely little area.

On arrival, there were plates of fruit, pastries and nuts in our rooms. I don't know if this was a Christmas special or happens all the time.

Breakfast was great, with hot chocolates, good coffee and the usual selection of meats, cheeses, eggs and pastries. Lovely bread selection!

Dinners were also something to look forward to.

A small bar also served amazing apple strudel (the best of our Austria trip!), and great noodles with cheese. Good wines by the glass too.

The hotel looks down over Salzburg. We were perched high in thick, dry snow, looking down on the city under a blanket of fog. When the city emerged, it was glorious. The hotel grounds are extensive and looked great under half a meter of snow. We saw photos of it in Summer and it also looked fabulous.

We had a car to get to Salzburg and nearby skiing areas. On a couple of occasions, we also used taxis - no problems.

This is a family-owned hotel and it shows. Friendly, and helpful staff.

It was a joy to stay here.

“Perfect Christmas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2007

We stayed at the Gersberg Alm for 3 nights over Christmas 2006 and the experience was totally perfect!! They had a Christmas package that included dinners which were very gourmet and some of the best we had on our trip to Salzburg/Munich. Breakfast was equally wonderful. The staff could not have been more accomodating and helpful, gave us ideas of what to do, such as taking a hike on a sunny Christmas Eve day to another inn, the Zistelalm, where we sat outside overlooking Salzburg, drinking in not only great beer but also the Alps (the fog in the valley made it quite magical!) This is what Salzburgers did that day -- not one American accent was heard. They arranged for concert tickets at the fortress, had a Christmas Eve program of stories/carols and just made it seem not at all like we were away from home. It might helped that we splurged on the "Nockstein" Apt. which was 2 bedroom/ 2 bath with a living room and kitchen. This was a 40+ room historic inn but very well modernized and appointed. It was helpful to have a car but it would be a good destination in and of itself. It really is only a 5 or so minute drive down the mountain into town. Can't believe it is not reviewed more -- many of the guests were either German or Austrian with a good sprinkling of Brits -- no young children at that time, I noticed. We would love to go back in the summer.
