“Clean and friendly but boring and far away”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

There is nothing really wrong with the hostel, it's just very boring and lacks atmosphere. It's only a hostel during the year, the rest of the year it is a school. The bedrooms are teachers offices. Which is weird. It is NOT close to the city centre, I mean we survived but it is a good walk and I would have much preferred to live closer.

There is no happy feeling of young travelling or excitement and don't expect to make any new friends. It's just a very boring place and no hostel feeling at all. Prob safe though. And the reception woman was very nice.

THERE WAS NO WIFI as promised, they tried to help me but coulnd't figure the problem out, and admitted it was ussually not working.. So don't expect to be able to use the internet if you need to!

“Crap location, not very clean, internet not working”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

Let's start off by saying you're only going to be staying here if you have to. If you can afford to stay somewhere else then you will (or you should!) I suppose there was nothing dramatically bad about it - maybe just a lot of little things. Firstly, the location - I don't mind not being in the centre of town but this place was a good bit of a walk (with hills) to the centre of town. This wouldn't be too bad if public transport dropped you nearby but it's actually a nice walk from where the bus drops you to where the hostel is especially with bags! Secondly, the internet was not working and this was not new - reviews long before I stayed there on many different websites mentioned internet problems. It pretty much doesn't work at all - one of our roommates claimed that sometimes at like 7am he got it working for 5 minutes but it's hardly worth it. Their response is that "it's not their fault". We stayed in a 3 bed room and it was very tight on space. The bathroom wasn't very clean. They don't provide towels - we had to purchase them for about a fiver each. They were absolutely tiny - smaller than most hand towels! Ridiculous seeing as we had to pay for them! We had breakfast on the morning we left which was fairly decent - it was €5 each. Cheaper than having breakfast in town but not as cheap as making it yourself. If you have other choices in your price range for accommodation in Salzburg then take them - if it's last minute and this is your only option then don't despair it's not the worst in the world (but you could do a lot better!)

Room Tip: Get a private room if you can - it's a bit tight on space in the shared rooms.

“Tragic”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

This establishment is a con.

1. They are a 30 minute walk from the nearest ATM yet do not accept cards and do not state this in any of their booking correspondence or their website.

2. They do not have internet, although they state they have it.

3. Their staff are rude, unprofessional and the waiting time for check-in or indeed any other sort of question at the reception desk is woefully slow.

Very very disappointing stay. The lack of internet and no internet cafes anywhere within cooee of this fairly remote hostel, singlehandedly ruined my short visit in Salzburg as I could not plan on the run.

Salzburg itself, however, is a wonderful magical city.

“Average place”

Not so great a place, will choose another place if we go to Salzburg again. But if you are on a budget, it's not a bad place at all.

“Muffin Hostel is Muffin Top”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2011

Hard to find initially, but when we found it, it was in a beautiful setting in quite a new building which doubles as a halls of residence for the university. Rooms are basic but spotless with all the facilities you would expect from a good hostel, i.e bar, laundry, kitchen and communal space inside and out. However the internet was very slow. The hostel is set in beautiful gardens and only a 20 mins walk from the main hub. A great hostel would recommend!
