“Excellent hotel for those who love to exercise and breakfast”

Here are the things I loved about the hotel:
-The location is nice, close enough for walking to Villach center
-Free wireless internet worked very well. I was able to VPN to the USA and do video conferences.
-Downstairs in the hotel is a public exercise club, free to hotel guests. The facilities at this club are very nice quality, and there are lots of lifting machines, free weights, and cardio machines.
-Free bottled water and other drinks in the fridge
-The free breakfast is very good, with a typical variety of breads, meats, cheeses, yogurt, breakfast cereals, and fresh squeezed juice. Plus a chef will make you eggs/omelet the way you like. Quite nice.

Other comments
-Bed and room are nice enough, but not large. I slept well and I am a light sleeper.
-The tub in my room was raised a little. You have to step in the tub to shower. Getting in and out to shower was a little uncomfortable.

I stayed for five nights and really enjoyed my stay.

“Perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2011

Excellent hotel! I stayed with my wife two times for a night each. Everything was perfect: location, rooms, clearness, breakfasts. The best choice for those who go from Austria to Italy by car. Church of Saint Cross in just across the street and Alps are surrounding you.

“Very disappionting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2010

This hotel was very disappointing! I spent many hours surfing for a city hotel in the Villach area for 4 nights of our fortnight holiday. We were looking for a hotel within walking distance of bars, restaurants ect. My main criteria when looking for a hotel is to get a good nights sleep and therefore airconditioning is high on my list in summer. The hotel was easy to find as it was on one of the main roads through Villach and had a secure underground carpark which was good. Unfortunately our room did not have air con and I was told that only a few rooms did and these were all taken - very misleading from their website. The room was adequate but extremely hot and we had to prop the window open with a rolled up magazine. This had obviously been done on numerous occassions as the window rubber was dented in this area. We weren't expecting a view in the middle of a city but our room look directly into another room 6 metres away which thankfully was empty. I asked for a fan which they didn't have and was told that the rooms got hot because it was summer!
Arriving late at the hotel and not knowing the area we ask for a map of the town. They had run out of maps and the none too helpful receptionist directed us into the old town where the restaurants were situated. Unfortunately her sense of direction wasn't too good either and she sent us the wrong way! Very strangely another receptionist the next morning was able to provide us with a map.
It was difficult to sleep as the room was extremely hot and the noise from the busy road very loud with the window open. On the last night/morning something was deliverd at 6 am with doors banging, motor running and people shouting below - I was not the only one looking out of the window to see what was going on.
The 'high-end media technology' as advertised would have been an added bonus as would the 'fluffy dressing gown' but the sauna like temperature in the room meant that we were unable to enjoy either.
For the standard of the hotel I also think that the bathroom could have been cleaned a little better but on a positive note the beds were very comfortable, breakfast was excellent, the mini bar was free and we were able to phone our son in England at no extra charge.
I had done my homework before hand and realised that the hotel was on a busy main road but did not anticipate having to sleep with the window wide open. Air conditioning in the room would have solved this and made our stay enjoyable.
As advertised in the hotel brochure 'The special things make the difference' - they certainly do, so we wont be coming back here again!

“Not again...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2010

Stayed here 1 night on the way to Italy. The room (booked it 5 days earlier) was very hot when we first entered it. Had to start the AC rigth away. Outside was 28 degrees celsius, the room had the same at first. AC noisy, had to sleep with earplugs, took hours to get the temperature down a bit. Nothing much to do on walking distance around the hotell. Had dinner at Pizzeria don Camillo (at the hotell). Had the worst service ever. Our daughter ordered a bottle of mineralwater. the waitress poured the water into glass that was dirty. We asked for new a glass, which we got after the waitress examined the glass. The water wasn't replaced. After that the waitress avoided to talk to us or make eyecontact.
However, can the recommend the bistro on the backside of the hotell.

“Grand out-of-date Media”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2010

I must write this review just out of frustration. Basically, there is not much wrong with this place. The room was modern and functional and clean and the breakfast was very nice. The location is a bit remote, but even that is not so bad. It is this "grand media" thing that ruined my stay. In the room, in a locked cabinet, is what sounds like a dated hard drive of a computer with a fan that is not only very noisy but blows hot air to the room. A visit to the receptionist revealed that it was not possible to switch it off. When air temperature outside cooled down to 20, the room was still at 31. The room did have an air-conditioning unit, which worked, but made even more noise. Opening the window did not help, as the room was facing the courtyard which had the major hum of the hotel air-conditioning.

This media "concept", that some reviewers have liked was nothing more than a dated and slow multimedia presentation that not only complicated the use of the TV (nothing worked the way it should have, even with the help from staff) but made the use of internet useless. I guess if viewing free erotica in a noisy hot room is your thing, then you're in the target group. For me, it was earplugs on, window wide open, going to sleep and in the morning out as soon as possible.
