“I wish I could have stayed another night.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I stayed one night in this hotel while traveling. They had a gated parking lot right next to the hotel, which was very convenient.

Upon arrival, the woman at the front desk was friendly and very professional. She called a bellman to help me with my 101 suitcases and various bags.

The room was smallish but adequate. Nice furnishings, nice bathroom. Plenty of hot water with good pressure (I love a good shower!). And a nice view from my window of the street below.

The hotel decor is up-to-date and pleasant. The building itself is really quite pretty to see, especially at night.

There are lots of shops in the area and a very nice park right around the corner. My second biggest regret was not to have stayed another day and to have explored the city a bit.

My biggest regret was leaving the power cord to my laptop in my room. Doaf! But when I telephoned a few days later, the man on the other end of the line confirmed that it had been left there. With a credit card number for shipping, he had it mailed out to me quickly. I was really appreciative.

One problem I experienced was the frustratingly slow speed of the Internet there. I went to the bar, right next to the router, hoping to get improved speed. But it was the same as in the room. The woman explained that the speed depended upon the number of people using the Internet at one time. She pointed out that the hotel was full, so that it was probably being used by many people.

“WARNING!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

***WARNING***
Neighboring - attached - building is being renovated. Men with power hammers begin at 8am (or earlier). The pounding noise will shake the fillings from your teeth if you attempt to stay in the hotel during construction hours.

Hotel failed to mention this at time of reservation or during follow up call for confirmation. Hotel's response to a very disappointed guest was "it has nothing to do with us".

“hottel gollner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2010

Quirky hotel near the Jakominiplatz bus terminal about 10mins walk from the 630 bus stop from the airport. The service was excellent and well above standards I’ve seen in many hotels in Europe. Reception was cheery and always tried to be helpful, whether it was finding a plug adapter for me or proffering an umbrella in an unexpected downpour. Rooms were rather old fashioned but clean and comfortable. The bedding was sparse (two small pillows and a single quilt) given the king-sized bed and the ventilation system could do with replacing with a proper air-conditioner as the humidity and heat in summer made sleeping difficult. The tiny sachet of shampoo was replaced once in a week. Also would have liked an in-room safe.

“Great family friendly hotel with apartment and terrace”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2010

We stayed in the Gollner in May 2010. We were going to a wedding with our 16 month old baby so the hotel was perfect for this. The location is not so nice, I think the hotel is in the "studenty" part of town and we had to walk ten minutes to the centre which is not so bad. That is why I only gave 4 stars.

The hotel has a nice entrance and staff were very friendly on arrival (unusual in Austria ;-)) There is also a parrot in reception. Great to get the bigger kids excited. I think they let you feed it with some seeds.

We stayed in the newly build wing in the back in a suite. So I don't know what the hotel rooms are like. To get to the suite through hotel is a bit of a hassle with a buggy but there were several lifts and once done we got to our room quickly. The suite was right above the breakfast room with a fantastic little rooftop garden. We spent our evenings sitting outside drinking Austrian wine, chatting while the baby slept inside.

As a rule we were looking for somewhere where our baby can sleep undisturbed by us watching TV or just reading so the suite was perfect for that. There were two separate rooms. The living room had a pull out bed and the TV was in the bedroom so it is a perfect setup for families. The staff prepared the travel cot for our arrival. There was also a feeding chair in the room. Unfortunately, the whole hotel had only one feeding chair so when we asked if there is one in the breakfast room they told us that the chair was in our room. The beds were nice and firm and as usual in Austria two separate mattresses in a double bed. The value of the room was fantastic. I think some of the other hotels charged more for what we paid for a suite with a terrace. Some of the apartments have kitchens which we were promised but didn't get which was not a problem because those apartments are on two levels, I think and not very suitable with a small kid.

Overall the staff made our whole stay a great pleasure. When we asked for example where we could iron our clothes for the wedding, they let us use their laundry room where there was an ironing board and iron (ironing not allowed in rooms). Also the cleaning staff cleaned our room after we left for the wedding. This way our morning was a lot less stressful. Big thanks to everyone in Hotel Gollner!
