Situated ideally, close to all the attractions of the centre of Graz. The hotel is somewhat dated and the rooms in need of some tlc, but as a spot to see the city sites it is ideal. The breakfast was OK, but no fresh fruit!

Without question, the Hotel Mariahilf is in the best location you could ask for—close to shops, restaurants, a stone's throw from the Kunsthaus Art Museum and the lovely Mur River.

As for the hotel itself, it's a little less appealing. Our room, while sizable and well lit, was spartan with a creaky hardwood floor. The bathroom looked like it hadn't been renovated in over 40 years, with dim lighting and seriously ugly tiling.

That aside, the beds are comfortable and the staff is friendly. I'd tentatively recommend this hotel, just be sure to get a room with carpeting.

As I was flying from Graz airport on Sunday I thought I'd make a short stay in the city so booked into the Mariahilf for the Friday and Saturday nights. I was on my own so booked a single room.

On arriving at the hotel it was very busy and the girl at reception, who was friendly and pretty, apologised that there was only one room left and took to me to the top floor and put me in a suite which is usually used by the Kazakhstan embassy. It was more like a large conference suite with a bed in the corner of one of the rooms but it was very impressive and even had a terracotta soldier in the corner of the TV room.

The bathroom was very large and there was a full kitchen. There were great views from windows on either side of the hotel ( the suite seemed to take up a lot of the top floor !) and one overlooked the design museum. You could also see the spires of Old Town and the Clock Tower up on the hill.

The location of the hotel is great. On a very arty street full of galleries and bars just near the river.

If you have a chance visit the Lugrotte Caves about 20km North of the centre of the city. V. Impressive.

We stayed for 6 nights, and could not have been happier. The staff were extremely helpful, especially Phillip, the rooms were spotless, and the location is perfect.
