“Average, central hotel, but overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

This is an average-quality hotel in the centre of Graz, overlooking the river and at few minutes' walk from the city historical buildings.
The hotel has a large lobby and breakfast room, and shows a pleasant decor at the reception and entrance.
My single room was large enough for the standard, and was provided with the basic facilities (satellite tv, minibar, wifi connection, hairdryer etc.); the bed was large and comfortable; the room was clean and quiet enough, though not 100% insulated from noise (coming more from inside the hotel than from the street). The bathroom was decent, with a shower that worked ok, but very small.
My room was average-to-good but I heard complaints about some shabby rooms in the hotel, so make sure they give you a good one (at the reception).
Breakfast was very good, with a large selection of food, both cold and hot, though it was a little overpriced (well, depending on how much one can eat at breakfast time).
The staff at the concierge was helpful though not particularly friendly.

The hotel doesn't have a garage, and one has to park one's car in a public underground garage nearby (there is a little discount on the rate for the hotel's guests).

I have no major complaints about this hotel, yet, given its pricey rates, I would try another one the next time I'm in Graz.

Room Tip: The quality of rooms may vary a lot, so make sure they give you a good one in the restored side of t...

“Like chairs instead of night tables? Mold instead of soap?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

One of the worst - almost funny. Almost. We moved from a room with large blotches of black mold on the ceiling and no WiFi to a room with mold in the tub, no bedside tables, dresser or shelves. When we asked for the situation to be rectified they brought hangers and shrugged at the side chairs we'd put in place for night tables. I covered the seat of mine with a towel & when they 'cleaned' they went to the trouble of moving all my things and taking the towel. The only amenity in the bathroom was liquid soap which you had to squeeze out. The bath one said 'soap and shampoo'. No conditioner, no moisturizer, no shower cap. I asked for wash cloths and was told 'no.'

Our room used a regular key with the room number hanging from it 2 inches high. To lock the door you had to USE THE KEY AND LOCK YOURSELF IN!!! This is the worst fire hazard I've ever seen in a hotel. We left the key in the door so we could get out in an emergency. But then we probably would have been lost in the maze that passed for a layout here.

We were guests of a company here and that is the only reason we didn't leave. We couldn't insult our hosts. But I had to write this review because I don't want anyone to get sick or worse.

Room Tip: go to another hotel.

“Ordinary behind the front”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011 via mobile

Sort of perfectly acceptable business hotel but with pretensions to be more. The large reception area belies the fact that the rooms - particularly the 'casual' ones - are really very ordinary. The jokey instructions in the room, most of which demand money, just grate.

“Nice hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

We stayed for 4 nights at the Weitzer Hotel during our trip around Austria. The hotel seems to be a mixture of styles, not unpleasant but a bit odd. Rather a "rabbit warren" of stairs and corridors and easy to get a bit lost at first. We stayed in a Classic Rubin room which was very large and airy, with high ceilings - rather "funky" furnishings, a large, modern bathroom with separate toilet, and plenty of storage space. Our room had a balcony, which was nice as we looked out over the river, however we were on the first floor at the front of the hotel, pretty much directly over a very busy intersection, so the traffic noise was fairly intrusive. There were only shutters on the windows and patio doors, no curtains, so it was difficult to block out light at night, especially from a huge light tower directly across the river which seemed to be in a big car park.

We had breakfast in the hotel each morning, there was a good selection and the breakfast room was always very busy as many business people seem to stay at this hotel.

One thing we sorely missed was tea/coffee making facilities - we'd had these at every other hotel we'd stayed at in Switzerland and Austria. I was very sick with a flu virus during our stay in Graz and it would have been hugely helpful to be able to make cups of tea to help with my fluid intake etc - we asked whether we could get a kettle (we were quite happy to go and buy some cups etc ourselves) but unlike the previous poster, our request was flatly refused and we were told we could purchase tea and coffee from the cafe downstairs, certainly not a cheap option! Rather a disappointment from a customer service point of view.

We found the staff rather "distant" but still polite and efficient. The hotel is in a good location, just a short walk across the river to the Old Town, and also not too far from the tram line.

All in all, not a bad stay but we would probably look for something else next time we return to Graz.

“Touring Austria”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

The hotel looked good when we arrived but our room was a disappointment. It was a casual room and the carpet was stained and it was a very small room. The safe was a drawer in the desk with a lock. It really couldn't be classed as 4*. We stayed in 3 other 4* hotels on our tour of Austria and they were all far superior to this one. We also had a problem at breakfast as the staff did not understand decaffinated coffee even when I asked for it in german.
On the plus side they did supply a kettle to make drinks in our room on request, but only brought the kettle and I then had to ask for cups.
