“nice hotel, but quite pricy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 March 2010

The hotel is very nice and well located (just beside the ars electronica center, with a tram stop in front of it). The room was huge with a nice contemporary decor. TV could have been bigger (I think it was a 14" screen). Bathroom was a bad surprise: very small, poor lighting and not-so-new appliances. Breakfast room and breakfast itself were very good.

“Not Recommended”

Got a deal for £74 per night on this but not really worth it. My room was huge but empty - just a couch, TV, desk and (honestly) an open bath spread around the edges. Bed was in a small seperate anti-chamber off the main area & toilet in another small cell. Shower was a hand-held thing that soaked the whole floor when trying to use and decor very plain. Internet in room didn't work so had to sit in the breakfast area (was not allowed to sit in the bar next to reception unless I bought a drink - not good). On the plus side, location is very central, breakfast was good and the reception staff helpful. This hotel is trying to be a boutique hotel but the standard of decor and attention to detail falls short of that aspiration.

Dear Guest,

First of all we would like to thank you for taking your time to give us your feedback on your stay at our hotel. It is really great to read your thoughts about the team and our breakfast. All the more we are very sorry for the uncomplimentary reaction of our colleagues from the café! Please note that the café Landgraf does not belong to the hotel even though they are carrying the same name and we have a direct alley. Probably the waiter was not aware of the fact that you are staying at the hotel. Nevertheless the behaviour was not satisfying at all and we are very sorry for that. Actions have been set to avoid situations like this in the near future. One of our most appreciated services is the complementary WLAN in the entire hotel. We are sorry that it did not work on your computer even though we tried it with one of our laptops and it did work. We are already working on the signal to improve it in the room you have stayed. Thanks again for your feedback and best regards from Linz!

“Didn`t quite work for us”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2009

The hotel is in a very good location next to the river and the famous Ars Electronica centre. Easy to get to via the tram numbers 1, 2, 3, all of which stop right outside.

The reception is small and corridor-like but decorated with flair. It is obvious that the hotel is a converted apartment block for once you get into the lift and the upstairs corridors the decoration is pretty basic and dowdy. The rooms still have their doorbells outside and this theme continues inside with a cooker in the wardrobe! However there are no pans or other facilities to enable them to be used.

The bathrooms may have had a recent lick of paint but are not new and probably date from the time these rooms were apartments. The shower was very good but the cabinet had seen better days.

The room itself was huge and imaginatively designed. The ceiling was very high and the room was light and airy. Its decoration was new as was the plain wooden floor covering.

The windows were huge and covered by vertical blinds to match the décor. They were double glazed but even so our room at the back was still incredibly noisy. We put this down to the fact that the room had few soft furnishings (esp. curtains) to absorb any sound. We always use earplugs so managed, but it wouldn’t work for everyone.

The bed was in a box frame which we kept hitting our legs on and the TV was far too small for such a large room and needed to be larger or much closer!

Breakfast was served in a small first floor room, decorated with white skulls set onto black glass panels. It actually worked quite well. It was self service and was just about acceptable. Breakfast was served until 11am at weekends but if you went down that late almost everything had been eaten. There was no attempt to replenish. Coffee was brought to the table and was awful and if you had tea the urn kept the water warm and not hot. It wasnt until our 4th morning that we discovered yogurts pre-served in glass dishes on a shelf at head height!

The huge bar downstairs had all the character of a factory, and catered more for people coming in from outside than for guests. It served limited food but the chairs were comfortable and the staff very friendly and efficient.

All in all I wouldn’t return and probably wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Nothing was completely wrong, and there was a lot to like (especially the efficient staff on reception) but somehow the overall experience didn’t work.

“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 May 2008

We stayed here for 3 nights in May 2008. When we arrived we were given keys to room 100, i had booked a room on Expedia, but when we opened the door, were very pleased to have been upgraded to a junior suite, wow. the room had really high ceilings, its own lounge area, massive floor to celing windows, a really inpressive room. The only downside i can see about this hotel is that , the rooms can get a bit hot, due to the big windows, and that the room gets the full afternoon sun, there is no Air Conditioning in our room and no Ceiling fans.
The temperature in Linz when we were there was about 23c, i was starting to feel the heat, so i cant imagine what the room would be like when it gets hotter in the summer
The hotel is very handy for the city centre of Linz, just over the bridge. We only had a drink in the bar on the first evening, it was very quiet, not much happening really, but the bar and restaurant was ok, although i could'nt comment on the restaurant food as we did'nt eat there.
The breakfast was very good, a bonus being that they serve the breakfast till 11.30am on weekends. The breakfast room was very stylishly decorated, in big bold printed wallpaper and comtemporary decor.
The hotel staff were all very friendly and spoke English and we even got to keep our room till 2pm on the day of departure.
We had a lovely 3 days here, and would definately recommend this hotel for the huge rooms and excellent location.

“Good /average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2007

I've been to Landgraf Hotel & Loft for 3 days/2 nights in September.

Travel from the airport easy.

Hotel: in the heart of the city on the busiest street. Very noisy in front.

What I asked: higher floor, quiet, clean, no pets, non smoking. Front desk staff friendly and efficient.

What I got: 4 floor I think, very quiet towards the back garden. (Very good choice). Room large, with an old design, ceiling very high. With a bit of character. Very clean.

A cooking machine in a closet, very strange especially that I had no cooking ware. A real mini fridge, I could store some sandwiches. Bathroom clean.

Breakfast reasonable, but no sausage, unacceptable for Austria. Coffee, miserable, a kind of Arabica probably suits the cooks taste.

Last day I had an early check-out and at my request they provided an excellent ( packed ) breakfast.

Rate correct but no internet in the lobby.
