We loved this slightly quirky hotel in Haupt Strasse, Linz. The location is great. The location is great. It lies in the centre over the Danube bridge to the Haupt Platz - Main Square and next to the Ars-Electronica museum. – a super modern building, multiply lit after dark. You can take a tram from the main station straight to the hotel, it’s just a short distance to Rudolf Strasse and Billa supermarket stop. Not far away behind the hotel is the Danube river, with walkways, cycle paths, benches and barbeque sites and odd steps structure to sit on belonging to the Ars-Electronica. The New Town Hall is just opposite.
The small lobby reception is staffed with friendly, knowledgeable young people who speak excellent English, give you excellent advice and lend you an umbrella when it’s raining (yes, it can rain in Linz – even in summer!). There are old fashioned touches with old-fashioned railings on the stairs, and oldy doorways.
The lift takes you to the 3rd floor – when we opened the door we could not believe the space of our loft apartment, with the light pouring in from corner windows, side windows and circular porthole windows in the ceiling. On the large oddly shaped parquet floor were a sofa, coffee table, side table fridge and a coffee machine that somehow eluded our best efforts to fathom it out throughout our stay. Taking pride of place in the middle of the room was a large deep, curtained bath tub with a shower. A distorted cubist portrait of a lady stared at us knowingly from the wall.
The separate double bedroom was comfortable with interesting glass painted lighting and a small WC provided for needed privacy. The plumbing seemed a little tired and the room could be hot, even with all the windows open.
The service by an English speaking tattooed chamber “woman” was friendly and excellent.
An adequate breakfast was served by various male breakfast people on the first floor in a black and white room decorated with white painted deer antlers, a collection of porcelain cows and a ginormous plant pot. The Landgraf Hotel & Loft was a great experience and we would recommend it to all our friends and anyone looking for an just a slightly unusual not at all “plasticky” , friendly and comfortable base with lots of space.
Room Tip: We recomend you use public transport which is simple and convenient.. We had room 305 to the back.
