This was the second time I stayed at the Arcotel and I have to say I have been impressed both times. This time I spent two nights there and found the staff extremely helpful and pleasant, the room was smallish but very comfortable and clean and the food very reasonable and tasty.
Well equipped and modern bathroom except for a shaving point which I couldn't find. The room contained all you would expect from a 4 star hotel and has views either across town or over the Danube.
I ate breakfast on both days and it was the standard European fare with cold meats and chesses, fruit, cereals and scrambled eggs and bacon, served in very pleasant dining room overlooking the river. On the final day I went for the buffet lunch for EUR 10 which included soup, choice of main dish with salad and dessert which was enjoyable.
The old town of Linz was a 10 minute walk away and Landstrasse (where most of the decent restaurants and bars are) was just a couple of minutes further on.
Linz itself is a smallish, industrial town, probably not the most scenic in Austria but nonetheless very friendly.
The one drawback is getting there. Ryanair fly to Linz from Stansted but thats about it. It took me 8 hours to get back to Edinburgh from there (with a 2 hour delay, mind) and I would seriously think about flying to Vienna and taking the train which is only about 1 1/2 - 2 hours.
All in all, a very pleasant stay at the Arcotel and I look forward to my next visit
