I have stayed at this hotel on several occasions as it is the one used by an event I attend each year. There is little to disappoint.
The room is of a decent size, with adequate storage space, a large desk, table and armchair and a large and very comfortable bed. The bed does have a duvet, which wouldn't be my choice - it is a case of all or nothing. I was brought up with sheet and blankets, and you used as many or as few as you were comfortable with. But that is a European thing and the hotel is just following the norm.
There is an empty minibar, with goods instead available for purchase at reception. This system works very well, as it is possible for the hotel to offer a far larger and more comprehensive range. There are bottles of wine as well as beer, chocolates, nuts of various kinds, biscuits, even ice cream, as well as many other items. And goods are not at inflated minibar prices. There is also a bottle of wine available for purchase in the room.
Location isn't great, unless you are attending an event in the hall immediately behind the hotel. It is in an industrial area, but not too far from the Old Town.
Staff are very friendly and helpful, and there is free internet in the bar/restaurant. It is charged for in the room for an hour, day or week at what I would call moderate rates.
The only thing that lets this hotel down is the restaurant, and I have experienced this year after year. I used to take the buffet breakfast there every morning, and half the time I would find items such as bacon, eggs etc unavailable and have to point this out to the staff.
This time I took the breakfast just once, and the same problem occured. No bacon, no potatoes, scraping the last of the eggs and yohurt. I had to wait 20 minutes for what I wanted. Why the staff don't bother checking what is running out is beyond me. Because of the problem I experienced I was not charged.
The restaurant also has, year after year, a habit of herding guests to certain areas so they can lay tables for lunch - at 9am. This gives the impression that guests are merely a nuisance and in the way. Breakfast is served until 10, and all tables should be available to the guests until then. Black mark.
The bar is in search of an identity, I feel. There are tables and chairs for eating light meals, stools at small tables both at the bar and elsewhere, and along one wall some very comfortable seating that is really only suitable for large groups of people (attending exhibitions next door?). Service is efficient.
Now, if they could just sort out the restaurant....
