“Great design, great staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2010

A very good loaction near the center of Linz, still not noisy. We had a view just on the cathedral. Prices are not low, but you get an exceptional service. The reception is very pleasant, helpful and courteous. We could not expect more.
The design of the hotel is very contemporary, clean lines and light colors, new and up to date.
We slept there two nights. the beds were very comfortable, enough pillows, not too hot. -anyway we could set air co for our room.
And the breakfast was just delicious and various.
In one word, an exceptional hotel. Strongly recommended!

“Reviews are right - horrible beds”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2010

The other comments about the horrible beds are right. They are on wheels and about the right size for a 10 year old. A double bed is just two of these together juxtaposed next to each other. The blankets are irritating small in line with the bed size. It's style I see quite a lot in 4 star and below hotels throughout Austria and Germany.

For the price, I would expect at least a queen size bed and a good size blanket so my feet don't stick out the other end if I pull it up over my shoulders.

As a frequent traveler, the most important thing for me are the fundamentals: good big comfortable bed, quiet room so I can sleep, and a clean shower. The other stuff like a room with a view, courteous staff, etc are nice, but if the fundamentals are not there, I will always have a horrible overall stay.

“Comfort and style - in a great location too”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2009

Hotel am Domplatz is one of those hotels which remain in the memory for all the right reasons. Terrific location, too.

Parking the car in the underground car park makes it so easy to take luggage straight to the rooms via the lift - our first floor corner room was really comfortable and the light and airy atmosphere is so very attractive. OK, being on a lower floor did make us feel a little like goldfish in a bowl at times but hey, it was worth it for the grand view of the Dom itself and there are curtains and blinds, of course.

We loved the sophisticated lighting arrangements but query the lack of wifi in such a new, hitech building? Connecting to the network wasn't easy...or free.

Breakfast was efficient and plentiful. Service was friendly and charming.

A fine place to stay at a reasonable price too.

“a dream for architects”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2009

This hotel has just been opened in April '09. It has 69 rooms and 2 suites. We had a room with a queen size bed and shower. Everything is fresh and new and it's designed to stay like this. As an architect, I can see that the materials chosen are good quality and well tuned to eachother. The overall colour is white combined with natural wood.

The reception was great. They gave every information we needed, in a personal still pragmatic way. Perfect.

The room was great. It has all the non-technological and technological gadgets you would need for a trip. The room has been furnished in a way that no centimeter is left unused or hastily decided of. From the sliding mirror in the clear-glass bathroom to the desk which holds the information book by turning a piece of the leather covering. The floor is kept open under the built-in wardrobes which makes it easy to clean. The parket floor is good for people with allergies. The domotics for the lights may need a little adjusting to be perfect, as we didn't find how to turn on the standing lamp. But this didn't interfere with us being stunned by the design as we had a lot of lights to choose from to create the best atmosphere. The queen size bed was very comfortable. We had a room with a good size shower. The toilet is separate.

We used the spa on the fourth floor. It's the whitest spa you can find. The sauna and freestanding shower were great. We were unlucky that the steam room had a technical problem. Startup problems I assume. A clear management position whether bath clothes are mandatory may be needed for future guests. It was not clear. We can see in most northern European countries it's not mandatory to wear bath clothes in the sauna, which is obvious for us, but hotels can have their own rules. The resting area is normally with bathrobe. 2 bathrobes and slippers were included in the room so you can change in the room.

There is a very good and extensive breakfast. Everything is spotlessly clean and cooled or heated as it should be. Service is excellent.

The location of the hotel is very good. Next to the Dom, in between the railway station (15' walk) and the Danube (10' walk). The hotel has an underground parking garage. We parked in the street, as there is no cost for parking in the street on a Sunday. On Monday morning, we've put some money in the meter until we checked out.

This is a dream for architects as nothing is left to coincidence. This is a perfectly designed hotel. I'm sure you'll find it soon in architecture books. Splendid!

PS: Linz is the cultural capital of Europe for 2009. You have to go there. They have lots of nice architecture. There were some building sites to be completed before summer. They'll get there.
