Limited service at this hotel, as you check into your room at the bar and check out at breakfast. Watchout for upgrading to a 2 bedroom unit with a lake view.. it is really only a peek a boo view on the balcony. It is a nice view of old town square and nice to have an outdoor balcony. Also nice to have couch with large dining table for everyone to socialize around. The Breakfast is very basic. The dinner in the restaurant was very very good. If you don't stay help I would eat here.. Food is great. Save room for dessert of Souffle and Ice Cream.

On the Marktplatz, the hotel is nicely located. We selected the family apartment for our family of four. It was on what USA would call the second floor. Though the room was described as having a terrific view of the lake, instead, it had a peek-a-boo view between buildings. The room was a series of connected rooms - living room with balcony, parents bedroom, kids bedroom, shower room, WC. Each doorway was pretty soundproofed. Nice sound of the town's waterfall/creek came through into the room. Nothing fancy here. In retrospect, I would opt for saving money and getting two rooms on the top floor. The TV didn't work, and the staff I reported it too seemed ambivalent about it. Though I had requested parking as part of my reservation (because the town has very limited parking), none was available. Staff said to blame the Mayor who had recently changed the rules. Had to park in an area that had signs saying two hour parking (not enforced). There was no dedicated hotel desk staff, so the duties fell upon waitstaff in the restaurant. They tried to be very helpful as they multitasked for their restaurant customers, and one had much more knowledge than the other. Go to the Gruner Baum for laundry service. Food at the restaurant was tasty and well prepared, with nice ambiance out on the balcony. The breakfast had a pretty good selection.

This wonderful, historic hotel is located in the main square of HallStatt. A short walk to just about any place in town, including many excellent restaurants.

Our top-floor room overlooked the square and provided a great view of the lake. The room was cozy with many authentic touches.

We spent a relaxed few days in town. Gastof Zauner helped make that stay a great memory. Special thanks to Gabby for taking such excellent care of us.

We stayed at Gasthof Zauner for 3 nights. We were greeted by Herr Zauner with great entheusiam, and then shown our room. The view from the balcony of the village, lake and mountains was spectacular. The wooden furniture in the room has a unique smell and Herr Zauner says that your heart beats slower when sleeping in the bed made of this unique wood. Although the room was adequate in size, the bathroom was in need of alot of TLC. The tiolet seat (with no lid) was held on with a wooden rod. Upon trying the shower, the handle to the shower nozel fell off, as did the temperature knob. There was no soap dish, although there were holes in the wall where one must have been previously. The chair on the balcony was old and someone had tried to repair it. We were afraid to try to sit in it. There was a little table (covered with a damp mildewed table cloth) and bench with umbrella as well. I must say the Kitchen at this hotel was quite good. The waiter was very friendly and quite humorous. Breakfast was the usual meats and cheeses with soft boiled eggs and various cereals. The location of the hotel is excellent, on the market square.
