“Great location and service; average lodging for the price”

I've stayed here for a convention several times over the past few years, and love the location. It's easy to walk around Monaco using the Fairmont as a base, the views are lovely, and the sea view rooms face east so the sunrises over the sea are spectacular.
The rooms are standard sizes, don't expect lots of space, with the normal desk, chair, bed and flat screen TV. Bathrooms are split washing area/WC and are OK.
Don't settle for anything other than a sea view room or you'll be seriously disappointed. These have balconies with sliding doors you can move out onto with sunlounger and small table and chairs.
The beds are fabulously comfortable.
Although the decor in reception and common areas is fairly plush, once you get onto the room levels the decoration with the striped carpets and porthole window room doors is tacky. You don't feel you're in a luxury hotel.
We ate in the "Argentin" restaurant. Beware because this is pricey! and the food is not gourmet. Overall, the hotel is expensive for what it is, but then you'd expect to be paying a premium in Monaco, anyway. Just make sure you check that there are no conventions or big meetings being held there during your stay.
One final point: the staff in this hotel are excellent. Service is top-notch, friendly without being over familiar, nothing is too much trouble.

Room Tip: Only a sea view room will do.

I am delighted to read that you enjoyed your stay and that your room was at the level of your expectations. However, I have already shared your comments regarding your experience at the Argentin Monte-Carlo Restaurant. “Very comfy beds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I have been coming here for the past couple of years as part of the team that organises an annual event, DISTREE EMEA. While a great deal of the arrangements are made by someone else for the event itself, as one of the team - I have found the hotel team very accommodating and quite helpful. While the primary language of communication is French (of course) but the level of understand of English is quite good considering we have people from all across Europe, Middle east and Africa coming to this event.

The one thing for me that stands out - the beds are very very comfy. The food (while not outstanding) is well made and quite delicious.

Room Tip: Not sure - because we hardly spent any time in the room - just the bed!

“good location, okay room”

I loved Monte Carlo - the shopping, the walking, the food, the views - such a beautiful country. However, staying at five star hotels during the rest of our european trip to Milano and Nice - made Fairmont stick out like a sore thumb. For starters, our room was on the first floor - ew gross - the view was too close to the bottoem of the water. The actual patio was a nice size (which was good, bc the room was too small for my liking) and the view if you looked straight across (without looking down) was very nice - especially the yachts! The bathroom was tiny and old and the shower was okay, basically we thought the whole room needed a reno. However, the rest of the hotel was nice, like the bar and lobby area - the best thing was that we stayed in Aug 2011 when there was a fireworks competition happening - wow seeing them from the hotel was magical! Oh, a piece of advice that we found out the hard way - we came to Monte Carlo by train- turns out that most tourists arrive either by air or they drive - so getting a taxi from the train station is virtually impossible.

Room Tip: Do not book lower level - first floor

Dear Madam, Dear Sir,

I would like to thank you for taking the time to comment the Fairmont Monte-Carlo on Trip Advisor. I'm delighted to read that you enjoyed your stay in the Principality. I read your comment with great attention. I regret that your room did not satisfy you. We did complete a 5 year-plan renovation of the whole building that finished in 2009. We have noticed the information regarding the bathroom and will take your suggestion for a next phase of renovation. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Fairmont Monte Carlo in the near future.

Sincerely yours

“Wow, what an amazing view from our room”

We stayed at the Fairmont for four nights to kick off our honeymoon. Wow, what a great hotel overlooking the mediterranean. Our guestrooms had a balcony where we enjoyed a great bottle of champagne. We had a chance to dine in l'Argentin and Horizon Deck, Restaurant & Champagne bar two of the nights. Both meals were quite amazing and the wine list offered some resonable local wines. The spa and couples massge room were heavenly. I would like to recomend Paola Giraudo at reception as she provided us information regarding the local train travel to Italy after our stay in Monte Carlo.

We did take the local bus service to Eze, France which was pretty easy. it is a great day trip from Monaco.

Room Tip: upgrade to a balcony room!

“Great hotel and excellent location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

We stayed at the Fairmont Monte Carlo for my wife's 30th birthday and it was perfect. The hotel is well located with great views over most of Monaco. It is also only a 5 minute stroll away from the main casino square in Monte Carlo and only 5 minutes from the beach.

We arrived in Monaco by helicopter from Nice which I would highly recommend. It's a great way to start the holiday and gives unbeatable views of the Cote d'Azur. On arrival at the Fairmont we were checked in quickly and taken to our room facing one of the court yards. The room was a good size as well as being bright and very clean. It was a nice touch to have champagne waiting in the room. Our room was well appointed with a very large bed, large TV and a good size balcony with views of the Monte Carlo Casino (well the back of it anyway but it still looks great).

The Fairmont is not much to look at from the outside but inside it's very grand. There is a large, bright marbled foyer as you enter with the casino and bars also located off the foyer. The casino in this hotel (Sun Casino) is the best in Monaco. It's American in style and is more fun and relaxed than the main Casino.

We only ever had breakfast in the hotel and this was excellent quality with great views over the coastline. The restaurant is at the top of the hotel and it was lovely to be eating outside. Breakfast is quite expensive but that pretty much goes for all of Monte Carlo.

The staff in the hotel were always helpful and welcoming. On my wife’s birthday we had breakfast in our room and I asked if they could perhaps do something special. Well they brought her a lovely French patisserie style cake with candles and came into the room singing happy birthday. A great touch I thought.

If you are a Formula 1 fan this hotel is a must in Monte Carlo. It is set on the hairpin (now the Fairmont Hairpin) and forms the tunnel. The views from the swimming pool are fantastic and you will never get tired of seeing top end sports cars pass around the hairpin.

The swimming pool is a lovely peaceful place with views of the Cote d'Azur to one side and the F1 hairpin and the main casino to the other. It’s a real sun trap and the sun loungers are the perfect place to unwind.

Overall we would definitely stay in this hotel again if we were to go back to Monaco.
