“A good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2011

It has a good location being above the main cabin lift to the slopes. The reception and bar area are beautifully panelled in wood and nice and restful. The bedrooms are fine except that as in all of Andorra the hotels sit on the main through roads through the principality which are used by heavy lorries and it is noisy especially if facing the road. This covers most of the rooms in the sports Hotel, a fair number in the Sports Village but not sure about the 5 star version as rooms maybe air-conditioned. So ask for a quiet room ( if not be prepared to move or buy ear-plugs). The same comment would apply to most hotels in soldeau, Canillo etc, unless air-conditioned..
We have stayed before and have never had a problem with service, e.g. parking my car, taking our skis to the locker room etc. Bar staff were always friendly as were waitresses in restaurant, though trying to say a few words in spanish always helps, (Andorra speak Catalan but staff come from anywhere but mostly spain).
Restaurant food is Ok being buffet style and its not grand cuisine but plenty of choice.
We knew spa charged-it is an amazing spa with 6 jacuzzis, 3 swimming pools, 6 saunas/steam rooms and in theory you need to book a time but if not busy they are very relaxed. Value for money.
One gets room deals on the internet so don't buy at rack rates, even reception will tell you that, It will always be busy at weekends being close to Barcelona so as ever don't go at peak/Spanish holiday times. Mid week January was very quiet.
We would stay again but choose our room carefully.
re reference to russians being favoured I think staff were relieved we weren't Russian !
There are "british pubs" owned by the chain which are apparently lively and fun.
The Hotel is fine and we will go again but clearly you pay for the facilities and the location. Cheaper hotels exist on the grandvalira ski area but their location is not so good.
The sports hotel (across the road) as distinct from the sports hotel village although owned by the same chain has more package ski holiday operators and is cheaper but rooms are generally noisy or face the mountain. You get what you pay for as ever.

“Great location to Ski Slopes for an affordable price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2011

The Sport Hotel Village is one of the three hotels in the Sport Complex, and provides direct access to the gondola and chair lift to the ski slopes. The hotel itself is organized nicely. Most people are on the "half-board" plan, meaning both breakfast & dinner are provided. We only had breakfast in our room rate, which meant if you ate at the restaurant it will cost you 25euro per person. The meal is good, but you can get better deals at other restaurants in Soldeu.

The biggest complaint, which goes for all public areas, is that smoking is permitted. Sitting in the lounge gets pretty bad once the smokers begin to light up. Until Andorra passes a law banning smoking indoors, this will continue to be a problem. This is the one thing that will keep me from returning to Andorra.

The skiing is good, but conditions are variable. If you get there when its snowing, it is great. However if you have to deal with warm weather like I did in January there will be a lot of bare spots and ice. Overall, the slopes are for intermediates and beginners but will keep experts at least entertained. Their black runs would likely be blues in the US.

I would recommend the hotel given its location and friendly staff, but be prepared to be smoked out. Also be aware that if you are not staying in the 5-Star Sport Hotel Hermitage, you will need to pay for certain benefits such as the hot tub (jacuzzi). Access to the hot tub will cost 45 euro and requires a reservation. Internet access is available in the lobby only, and is free if you have your own computer.

“You pay for the location but there are cheaper better alternatives”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2011

Just got back from one week stay at the sport village soldeu.
Hotel supposed to be 4 star, not sure that's the case..... you are basically paying for the location, the hotel stands above the main gondolla that takes you upto the slopes and the ski hire shop. If you pay bit extra you get a pretty amazing view of the slopes from your balcony.
Decor is nice although one of the chairs in our room had worn arms (not what you'd expect to see in a four star)
Room a decent enough size for two.
Food; not good. Bascially the same every night, ok if you want some type of meet and chips and the obligitory salad bar, not much variety pretty dull, we've eaten better in 3 star hotels. One night i actually found mould on my bread and a hair on my steak, we didn't eat dinner in there after that.
Hotel full of Russians who are generally miserable and rude and spend thier evenings sitting in the lobby smoking cigars and looking at thier i-pads with a face of misery. You can smoke in all the public areas which can now be a bit strange to get used to!
Basically we felt that the place was overpriced for what you get, there are cheaper alternatives in Soldeu, and its not a big place so even if you had to walk another 100yds to the gondolla it would be worth saving yourself alot of money!

“misleading”

We booked the hotel for these facilities only to find that the spa centre is not available to residents but has to be pre-booked on a daily basis for a limited usage period at a fee of 42 euros per day. This is the second most expensive hotel in Soldeu, advertising their Spa centre as one of the hotel features. We felt completely mislead. We wanted to relax in the spa after a day of skiing, this wasn't available to us.

“Lovely Hotel, Great Location, Service Terrible!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2011

Stayed in this hotel for a treat, much more expensive than other options available. Unless you are Spanish or Russian with big wallets you are ignored!!! Unbelievable rude staff apart from one or two exceptions! Managers all over Spanish clients looking after them, not even 'Hello' to us!! Food extremely average and seemed to be the same everyday! Even a lot of the staff couldn't speak english! Very disappointed and wished we'd payed half what we did for another hotel close by.
