My Wife and I stayed here in early August with a friend who we were taking to Andorra for the first time. Out of curiosity more than necessity, and it was only for one night, we decided to stay in the cheapest hotel we could find online and the Hotel Font was it (£18 for a night in a double or single room)

Location:

The Hotel is well located in La Massana being immediately underneath the cable car station which runs in both Summer and Winter up to the ski resorts of Pal / Arinsal (Vallnord). This in turn is opposite the main central car-park (underground) as well as being a minute or so's walk from a small supermarket.

Check in:

When we arrived, there was a note on the door saying that you needed to check in at the Hotel Magic which was about 5 minutes walk away - during the summer months there is NO reception at this hotel. Clearly what's happening is that rather than leave the hotel closed up all Summer (as many hotels in Andorra are) they sell the rooms at a heavily discounted rate, with the management of the hotel looked after by the Magic which remains open all year.

When we went to the Magic, we were given an electronic code which would open the main door of the Hotel Font, fairly straightforward.

Hotel facilities / Catering:

In the summer, there aren't any! There's no reception and no staff on duty. There is a small lift up to the rooms and that is it. The breakfast room is closed in the summer, however there is a very good cafe immediately underneath the hotel (immediately to the left of the front door) which should take care of all your breakfast needs. Staff are very friendly.

Rooms:

The rooms are simple but functional, there appear to be very few double rooms with most rooms having twin or single beds. All rooms have TV but no minibar or Tea / Coffee facilities (then again, most European hotels don't have tea/coffee in the room). The bathrooms have a bath/shower and these are fine.

In the summer, the telephones in the rooms do not work, presumably because there are no staff on site to activate the lines and to monitor their usage.

There is very little noise from outside so was able to have a good nights sleep - however be warned that there does not appear to be any air con in the hotel so it may get a little warm in the height of the summer.

Summary:

All in all we had a pleasant stay at a very cheap rate..You get what you pay for so as long as you aren't expecting much then I don't think you'll have a problem. I only wish other hotels that are part of a group in Andorra would do the same thing in the Summer, thus offering a wider choice of cheaper rooms rather than them being shut up and looking very folorn.

NOTE: This hotel is only open between November and March and during July-August. At all other times it is closed.
