We stayed in Husa Xalet Verdu during our Christmas skiing break in Dec 2010. The hotel is 3 min walk from the main gondola and the bus stop. We enjoyed our stay very much - the hotel is very well run in my opinion. Staff are very helpful and friendly, although you might straggle a bit if you don't speak Spanish. Hotel is very clean and warm, it was a bit too warm for us and we ended up keeping our bedroom window open all the time, we were on the top floor overlooking the field and another hotel at the distance, so the noise from the road wasn't bad at all. The rooms are spacious enough and the bathroom with bath was great for after-skiing soak. I read some reviews on Trip Adviser before we went there and the lack of replacement toiletries was on my mind when i brought shampoos/shower gel with me, but the issue is now resolved - they have recently installed the bigger containers onto the bathroom wall which get topped up on a regular basis, so we never run out. Towels are replaced if you leave them on the floor and bed linen was replaced a 2-3 times i think. There is also now a safe in the room at no extra charge. We have left our skies in the underground parking ski storage for a couple of days (reception will give you a padlock at €20 deposit) but then ended up just taking skies and board into the room, the hotel don't seem to mind. However the ski boots are not allowed, you have to take them off at the entrance, which is fine as it is clean and most areas (including our room) had underfloor heating as well as radiators on the walls, which also meant that all our skiing gear dried very quickly. The wi-fi connection at the reception is FOC but didn't work all the time but Surfer's Bar (just behind the main Arinsal gondola) seemed to have wi-fi on all the time and no password needed :-) I have to warn you that hotel has 6-7 Spanish TV channels, 2-3 French channels and only 1 English channel - EuroSport, which showed Winter Olimpics non-stop.... The food was ok, not bad at all for a 3* hotel - continental breakfast with additional hot buffet (scrambled egg and beckon) and dinner of buffet starter (3-4 salads, olives, pickles, soup and pasta), a choice of 3 mains and deserts from the menu. Mains were ok, in a week we tried chicken, steak, veal, duck, salmon, cod and pork (comes with chips or mash) and all was eatable and well cooked, sort of more home-style rather than restaurant quality... My husband is a fussy eater and has nut allergy and even he agreed that the food was not bad, just a bit boring perhaps. Deserts were of pre-cooked variety if you know what i mean, the type you get at chinese restaurants - ice-creams in the tubs, pannacotta (which was actually very nice!!!!!!) or fresh melon. Couple of the deserts we tried, like some sort of jelly and 'cream cheese' - it was absolutely revolting!!! So stick with ice-cream and fruit! Wine and beer was actually very nice and the prices reasonable. Beware - hotel DOES take pets and some Spanish families bring dogs with them, which did cause us an evening of distress once (two dogs next door barking for 3-4 hours while their owners were out dining in Arinsal) We did complain and were offered to be moved for one night to another Husa group hotel down the road if the owners didn't come back before 11pm as the our hotel was fully booked, thank goodness it was not necessary after all. Also people seems to be smoking a lot in the reception area and in the rooms too, so next time i will ask for a non-smoking room, although i am not sure if they offer this option.. In general for 'value for money' this hotel is very good, and we are going there again before skiing season is over, but i'll take it on B&B basis rather than Half Board as eating out in Arinsal is great.
