“Genuinely nice hotel, comfy rooms, hot showers and baths in AMAZING resort, but food not really fantastic”

Genuinely pleasant hotel in terms of accomodation, clean comfy rooms (we even had a great view down the hill over the town and mountains). Warm showers & big baths.

Only thing that stops me giving this Hotel a very good is the food. The breakfasts & dinners are very limited, breakfast was a tiny buffet with only cold meats, croissants, bread rolls & salad. Nice food if thats what you want but personally I want a good hot heart breakfast before a day on the slopes. Dont expect this.

Dinner was nice but had to be chosen from a set menu, and portions were fairly small. Again, I come back from the clopes starving and love a good buffet to just fill up on to my hearts content ready for another day of boarding! Maybe thats not classy but hey.

Reception a bit miserable but not unhelpful. Overall Good stay.

“Good value, helpful staff.”

The service experienced at the Xalet Verdu was very good. Apart from one person at the front desk, who appeared disinterested in everything. The rest of the staff were very helpful and friendly, despite the fact our knowledge of the Catalan language was nil they tried very hard to make us welcome.
The room we were allocated was a bit on the small side, but very clean, with superb views down the valley, and over the pool.
The hotel is in a very good location at the top end of the village with excellent views, the pool was always clean, and there were more than enough sunbeds. There is also a comfortable lounge with a pool table and game machine. Internet access is available for a small fee.
We stayed half board and found the food satisfying, a buffet breakfast had the variation to satisfy most peoples tastes, and always set us up well for a days walking. We were provided with a packed lunch each day, which varied daily, and were probably the best packed lunches we have ever had provided.
The evening meal started with a self service first course, which could also be a 2nd. and 3rd. course if desired. A 3 choice main course, and 3 choice dessert. Definitely not Michelin style, but satisfying for our needs after hard days in the mountains.
The best things about this hotel are its location, friendliness and food.
If there is a criticism, the rooms are on the small side, and smoking is allowed in the bar area, which might be offensive to some, but appears to be the norm in Andorra.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front of the hotel have no balconies but superb views down the valley.

“Lovely hotel great location for walking”

We stayed here for a week on an Inghams package and really liked the hotel and the food. We had a front facing room which though not luxurious was comfortable, very clean with a nice big bathroom and had a great view down the valley. There is a nice garden to the side with loungers and a small pool.
The buffet breakfast was excellent, with a good choice and always 2 cooked items. The dinners were very good with a brilliant starter buffet, choice of 3 mains and a different vegetarian meal was prepared for me each day and for a country that does not really "do" vegetarian, the food was excellent. The dessert was only fruit, cake or icecream each day. Our package included a packed lunch each day which was good with 2 rolls, biscuit, drink and water.
Xalet Verdu is brilliantly placed for walking, being at the top of the village you are straight up into the mountains. Comapedrosa (highest mountain in Andorra) is easily accessible from the hotel. We would stay here again for the food, location and walking. Talking to other people staying in larger hotels in Arinsal it seemed that the Xalet Verdu was nicer.

Room Tip: Ask for a front facing room for the view

“Lovely hotel, good location”

I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel. It is clean, well maintained with comfortable rooms and is just a short walk from the gondola. The bed was nice and firm; the room was warm; the bathroom was lovely - kept very clean , with marble surfaces, nice toiletries, a bidet(!) and large bath. There was provision for storing skis or boards in the basement. We paid for bed and breakfast and this gave us the option to eat in the varied restaurants, cafes and pubs locally during the evenings. We did try the Verdu's evening meal once and found it ok, but we got better value and choice by dining out (Cisco's is a must - I recommend the ribs. Huge portions!) Downsides: the downstairs lounge and corridor areas aren't non-smoking, so they tend to get smoky, and the smell (and the overflowing ash-trays) lingered; the lighting in the room was lacking and it gave the room a 'dingy' feeling at night; sounds from other rooms seemed to carry, especially through the dividing door. However, the breakfast buffet offered a good choice, and any request or difficulty was dealt with efficiently and politely; the coffee from the bar was also lovely, at only 1eu 30. I would return to this hotel again quite happily.

“Excellent Hotel - Excellent Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2011

The Xalet Verdu in Arinsal was in my opinion an excellent hotel.
It is well located - about a 2 minute walk away from the main Gondola (slightly longer walk in ski boots) - me and my husband snow board so the walking was not a problem. There are ski lockers at the top of the gondola so you dont have to carry your skis/ boards back to the hotel if you do not want to..
The food is good - husband is a picky eater and he ate in the restaurant every night. No problems at breakfast - always a giood supply of fresh bread and bacon! If you are half board - you only have to pay for the drinks you have with your evening meal - and they cost next to nothing.
The resort itself is fantastic for all ages. Free drinks, toasties and nachos galore!
My top tip for any keen skier is to get yourself up the mountain and across to Pal ASAP. You can either do this up the main chairlift from Arinsal (bit windy) and then across in the Telecabine. OR catch the L5 bus down the road to the village of LA Massana (1 euro 50 cents) and go up the gondola there - not windy. The good thing about Pal is that it is quiet, tree lined and the slopes are well pisted. They only really get chopped up on Sat/ Sun.

All in all, an excellent week - definitely would consider going back.... would even consider reelocating there if the right job came along!!! Email me for more details!!!
