2 Nov 2009 | Trip type: Couples

A no frills type of establishment, but one that was more than adequate for a weeks stay in Paphos.

On arrival greeted cordially and shown to the room and that was what it was a room with the beds, sofa and kitchen in the same space. It was however not a problem and was large enough, although all the wooden items were pained ina green wood paint!!!

A very very disappointing balcony, big but with only a view to another block close by and surrounded so that only a minimal amout of sunshine ever got on it. The other view from the window was of what we would call a 'bomb site', land that cannot be build on being Turkish owned.

The kitchen its appliances and equipment were adequate, the toaster just about able to take two slices of bread.

The wall safe was reasonably easy to use (10 euros for the week), there was no need of the air conditioning, it would have been an extra 42 euros for the week!

There were two single very low beds that some might find hard to get up easily from, they were comfortable enough.

The bathroom was there and usable, but was in need of a little sparkle.

The maid service was again adequate the towels and sheets being changed once during the week, but they came in most days to tidy up.(They failed to double lock the apartment when leaving each time.

The pool was very clean and tidy as were the permanent sunbeds. The poolside bar was expensive 5 euros for two small diets Pepsi's!!! Only got caught the once. There was some traffic noise from the Tomb of The Kings Road when sunbathing.

The premises were situated some twenty minutes walk from Paphos Harbour, it was pleasant enough walk and safe enough even late at night. The Old Town was fifteen minutes walk in the opposite direction. Did get lost the first time following the signs to the tourist area, but foukd it eventually, the market being well worth a visit.

Paphos Harbour and the surrounding area have been done up really well and not surprising that costs are more than on the Tomb of The KIngs Road. Nice view of the Harbour and two coffees turned into seven euros!!! That said did find Pinguenos Restaurant a very nice ,comfortable and good value place to eat, dining there three evenings with a different meal each time.

There are plenty of bars and restaurants on the Tomb of The Kings Road and many worth a visit, but there were signs of the recession with a number closed down.

Car hire was always to be on the cards and decided to take a chance with a local firm in the harbour area. A reasonable deal but when they showed me the car it was dented scratched and even had alight missing at the back. A protest resulted in another being offfered that was better I thought. After a days driving I chcekd the vehicle properly (should have taken my time earlier) found one of the tyres obly just about legal. Next time it will be a reputable company pre-booked and with time to check things over more carefully.

The cost of everything in Cyprus seems to have increased according to the locals since the euros came in and it was noticable that along with the exchange rate things were pricey.

Coral Bay beach was certainly worth a visit and at least the parking was free!!! The trip to Polis and Latcchi was made one to remember as after seeming being on the road back to Paphos via a the mountains found the car low on petrol and asking a local there was none on the way were were going and it was a panic getting all the way back to Polis with the gauge on empty. There are no garages open on Saturday, they all become self service, and fortunately a local helped us to understand the system and get petrol so as to get home safely.

It was a first visit to Cyprus and enjoyable. Would go again and hope the exchange rate gets better next time around.
The real down side was the changing of the flight back, having booked some months earlier to get an early evening flght and it being put bcak until 11.00pm. This meant leaving the apartment before 12 noon and having to leave the cases in the foyer of the hotel for the rest of the day until being picked up at 8.00pm. the hotel did offer a courtesy room where a shower could be taken and a change of clothes made.

First and foremost I have to commend all the staff at Tasmaria, they were so friendly and went out of their way to help in any way possible and answer any questions we had about the local area.

We booked through Thomas cook who, to cut a long story short, messed up our booking. We have still not heard from Thomas cook who's mistake it was that we did not get the room we requested (Over a month later now we are back from hols!). However, we also emailed Tasmaria regarding this mistake and as we could not have pool view room they upgraded our room for no extra charge (even though this was thomas cooks mistake not theirs).
When we initially arrived we could not get the aircon to work, after phoning down to reception we had it fixed within 10 mins. I found a few ants in the bathroom and kitchen (I have seem some reviews complaining about this, but unfortunately it's a hot country so it happens) so we went to reception to ask if they had any spray - they were quite willing to come and spray the room for us but I was happy to do so myself - after spraying once we did not see a single ant for the rest of our 2 week stay. My point is that if you dont ask, you don't get and anything we asked for - whoever we asked - was always willing to help.

The rooms were clean and the grounds were pretty and well kept. The apartments were very quiet and none of them overlooked the road so were not noisy at night.
The pool was surrounded by plenty of sunbeds - some in the shade at certain points of the day so handy if you prefer not sit in the sun all day long.

The pool bar was reasonably priced for food. We never ate in the main resteraunt so cannot comment on the food there but the food served by the pool was good quality and you got good sized portions. Drinks were slightly more pricey, however, everything in Paphos is slightly pricey at the moment because of the euro.

The entertainment at the bar of an evening was great fun. Thanks Sam! The more the merrier basically. Some nights were quieter than others but Sam always made the most of it and if people didn't want to join in she would encourage them but never be pushy.
I also have to say that Shirley behind the bar was wonderful. So friendly and chatty but efficient at the same time. From the moment we arrived she made us feel welcome and remembered our names from the minute she heard them - it's the little things that really can make you feel welcome. Hence we spent far to much time at the bar from then on as we had a fantastic first night and met some wonderful friends!

The apartments are ideally situated as you have everything you need on your doorstep if you don't want to venture to far. You are within walking distance of the harbour and a short bus ride to Coral bay beach if you want to venture a bit further. Car hire is plentiful if you want to explore the rest of Paphos or go further afield.

Tasmaria may not be rated 5* apartments and the apartments themselves do not compare with a 5* hotel, however our experience of these apartments was 5* as the service and atmosphere was just as good if not better than a 5* hotel as it was far more personal.

Thanks to everyone at Tasmaria!

just returned from 12 day holiday at the tasmaria.when we booked it in march it was number 1 in the ratings its now 11 and prob more realistic . rooms were ok, basic but spacious.you have to pay extra for air conditioning and also the safe, staff were very helpful, and the pool was always clean with lots of sunbeds, which were set in concrete so you couldnt move round with the sun, they all had canopys if you needed some shade. hotel is situated on main road into paphos.we were half board the breakfast was full english served buffet style which was very good, then came the evening meal, dont bother!lots of bony fatty meats,no salad, veg,or fresh fruit, soup was more like dishwater.we ended up eating out most nights at a little english cafe down the road called tea for two.we were told this was a 4 star hotel but in our opinion it was 3 at best locally there are lots of bars and eating places.we found a couple of good bars were the beer was only 2 euros a pint in thomas,s jungle and the black velvet, they also allow you free internet ,best for entertainment was the pitstop pub which has mainly tribute bands these are cancelled when the footy is on!!! if you want to walk into town its about 20-25 mins or get the bus for e1-50 and that is a fixed price even if you go the other way up to coral bay .like most places where the brits go so do the timeshare touts, just say no thanks and dont stop.lots of bars and shops in town centre even a debenhams! for the 18-30? there is bar street with loads of bars all competing to be the loudest.all in all had a good time in paphos and the tasmaria, any questions ill be happy to try and help

this hotel was very well run , clean and had a good location 1/2 kilometre from tomb of the kings. small walk to coastal path right in to paphos , great for walking or jogging. We found the selection of buffet at breakfast was good for the size of the hotel, we dont eat meat but still managed to fill ourselves up(we were B&B). The restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel were varied cypriot, italian, chinese ,thai, indian, mexican ,pizza and pub type grub. we would recommend the italian down the street opposite and the better of the pizza restaurants is Martinellis; the Thai along to the left from the entrance of the hotel and the cypriot mezzes any where were all perfect.
had a problem with air con one night where it blew warm air only but this was reported and fixed next day and obviously we did not have to pay for that night but we were given two tall fans which helped.
we went to welcome meeting (it was just us and we booked Limmassol wine festival tour-Waste of time and money )
We also booked car hire for two days pick up at 9.30am from hotel.the hire car was in the car park at 6.30 am when we went for a jog but they never came with keys until 11.00am by which time we just left as the drop off was too late and not what was agreed. In hindsight the places we were planning to go to recommend an AWD vehicle anyway so maybe its better we didn't take the car we had booked( a Corsa).
All in all it was a good hotel which we could not fault very reasonably priced . we will probably rebook in to this hotel as it suits our needs fine

We have just returned after spending 10 days there. On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly Tas who (even though it was after 10pm) made sure we had domething to eat from the restaurant. (we were half board). The 1 bedroomed apt was nice and clean and was overlooking the pool. You definitely needed the air con which cost us 60 euro, We were aware that you had to pay and they have keys to switch it on in the bedroom and a seperate one for the lounge. However we used the key for both and had the air con going in both rooms simultanously.
The place was very clean, the usual annoying people that have to reserve the sun beds all day for fear of I dont know what? However there was always beds available. Slight crticism is hte sun beds cannot be moved as they are set in concrete.
The food was good, we had breakfast and evening meal, lots of Greek /Cypriot food which we enjoyed. , no chips.
The entertaiment was restricted however we didnt go away for bingo at the bar?? and the young woman Sam was only 18. Shirley was lovely behind the bar and I have to say all the staff were lovely. Nothing was too much trouble. The bar is quite expensive 5 euro for 2 cokes? however Cyprus is expensive so you do need a lot of spending money. Local bus costs 1 euro 50 to the Harbour or Coral beach, probably better to hire a car and get out and about, they drive on the left and you dont need electricity adapters.
Paphos is a nice place, theres nothing outstanding there but if you want sunshine and a chill out its great.
I would stay at the Tasmaria again and would recommend it.
