A no frills type of establishment, but one that was more than adequate for a weeks stay in Paphos.
On arrival greeted cordially and shown to the room and that was what it was a room with the beds, sofa and kitchen in the same space. It was however not a problem and was large enough, although all the wooden items were pained ina green wood paint!!!
A very very disappointing balcony, big but with only a view to another block close by and surrounded so that only a minimal amout of sunshine ever got on it. The other view from the window was of what we would call a 'bomb site', land that cannot be build on being Turkish owned.
The kitchen its appliances and equipment were adequate, the toaster just about able to take two slices of bread.
The wall safe was reasonably easy to use (10 euros for the week), there was no need of the air conditioning, it would have been an extra 42 euros for the week!
There were two single very low beds that some might find hard to get up easily from, they were comfortable enough.
The bathroom was there and usable, but was in need of a little sparkle.
The maid service was again adequate the towels and sheets being changed once during the week, but they came in most days to tidy up.(They failed to double lock the apartment when leaving each time.
The pool was very clean and tidy as were the permanent sunbeds. The poolside bar was expensive 5 euros for two small diets Pepsi's!!! Only got caught the once. There was some traffic noise from the Tomb of The Kings Road when sunbathing.
The premises were situated some twenty minutes walk from Paphos Harbour, it was pleasant enough walk and safe enough even late at night. The Old Town was fifteen minutes walk in the opposite direction. Did get lost the first time following the signs to the tourist area, but foukd it eventually, the market being well worth a visit.
Paphos Harbour and the surrounding area have been done up really well and not surprising that costs are more than on the Tomb of The KIngs Road. Nice view of the Harbour and two coffees turned into seven euros!!! That said did find Pinguenos Restaurant a very nice ,comfortable and good value place to eat, dining there three evenings with a different meal each time.
There are plenty of bars and restaurants on the Tomb of The Kings Road and many worth a visit, but there were signs of the recession with a number closed down.
Car hire was always to be on the cards and decided to take a chance with a local firm in the harbour area. A reasonable deal but when they showed me the car it was dented scratched and even had alight missing at the back. A protest resulted in another being offfered that was better I thought. After a days driving I chcekd the vehicle properly (should have taken my time earlier) found one of the tyres obly just about legal. Next time it will be a reputable company pre-booked and with time to check things over more carefully.
The cost of everything in Cyprus seems to have increased according to the locals since the euros came in and it was noticable that along with the exchange rate things were pricey.
Coral Bay beach was certainly worth a visit and at least the parking was free!!! The trip to Polis and Latcchi was made one to remember as after seeming being on the road back to Paphos via a the mountains found the car low on petrol and asking a local there was none on the way were were going and it was a panic getting all the way back to Polis with the gauge on empty. There are no garages open on Saturday, they all become self service, and fortunately a local helped us to understand the system and get petrol so as to get home safely.
It was a first visit to Cyprus and enjoyable. Would go again and hope the exchange rate gets better next time around.
The real down side was the changing of the flight back, having booked some months earlier to get an early evening flght and it being put bcak until 11.00pm. This meant leaving the apartment before 12 noon and having to leave the cases in the foyer of the hotel for the rest of the day until being picked up at 8.00pm. the hotel did offer a courtesy room where a shower could be taken and a change of clothes made.
