i have just returned form staying at basilica apartments and i found it very good the apartment itself had all you needed, it was kept clean and the staff were very freindly and helpful. the pool area was great my 3 children were never out of the pool which was also very clean, i would recommend the basilica and would definetly go back there

This location couldn't be better, but like our local taxi driver told us it was good 35 years ago. Its never been touched since. So bad we moved to another hotel. disgusted...

We travelled on the 15th August 2010 with three Teenage Boys (17,17, 19) and one Teenage Girl (14) and were self -catering
Lets be honest this hotel is clearly no more than 3 stars , but that's reflected in the cost of the holiday ( £600 each for two weeks).
We were upgraded (no extra cost ) straight away to two 2 bedroom apartments over looking the pool.The rooms were very spacious, if basic and have clearly just been given a recent low cost refurbishment.
The pool area is secluded from the main road and is clean, large, and quite with plenty of sunbeds to go round.
The pool is large with water features and is checked three times daily by Keith
The hotel location is superb ( a supermarket across the road, that is reasonable, and all bars and the harbour are no more that 2-5 mins away...there is NO noise at all at night).
The Hotel staff are very efficient, polite and anything we wanted they did their best to please us.
An example >>.checked out of our room at Noon, our suitcases were stored securely behind the reception , a complementary 3 bedroom suite was supplied to us from 4pm until 730pm..

A few negatives
The rooms ( The maids do not clean them to UK standards) were a bit dusty and needed a hoover / polish (this was sorted to our approval after we purchased some cleaning products from the supermarket ( £5) on the first day and it took us about 30mins to get it to a reasonable standard..... the maids however did pinch the sponges ect later on during the week !!!! )
The Pool and Area ..to bring it up to an A1 standard needs a regular deep clean

The Hotel welcome comments and appear to be trying to achieve a constant set standard.

All in all we would be happy to return to this hotel again, we were pleasantly surprised at the value and any minor hick ups were sorted very quickly

Pahos itself appears safe , clean and although battling the cost of the Euro is still slightly cheaper than the UK (London prices) on most local products.
If Cyprus goes back to the CY£ or the cost of living goes down ...watch out as this place will take off again ..
Best Value meal Tea For Two (plain English style food) ,Tao (Chinese), Georgies (Greek) (near to the fountain on the corner..totally mad evening)
Best Bars Robin Hood, Waves, Linekers, Hollywoods, Red Rose

Do try the coastal walk near to the fort that leads to the small municipal beach ( it's a hidden gem ) and then to Ben's ( Tomb of Kings Road) for a beer

I stayed in the Basilica as part of a five-person family trip for a wedding in Cyprus. I found the hotel to be large, but basic and lacking in "atmosphere" (even during July!) The plus side of that is how the pool area was never very busy and pleasant to sunbathe around.

Meals were comprised of two starters, a choice of main, and dessert. Not particularly excellent good, but perfectly fine -- although choices were repeated a fair bit throughout the week.

The rooms were average-sized, en suite, with air-con and sink area. The TV had bad reception. Our block had a lift. Towels and bed covers were changed Monday-Thursday, but for some reason our room was missed on Friday and Saturday. As is common for island in the Mediterranean, you can't flush your toilet paper (bins are provided - yeuch!) For what it's worth, the rooms looked NOTHING like the literature. I can only assume they advertise using photos of a few luxury rooms? Expect disappointment if you're a holidaymaker spending an average amount.

The main selling point of the Basilica is undoubtedly its phenomenal location: less than a two-minute walk from the sea and harbour, in amongst the bars/restaurants/shops, across the street from a large supermarket.

If you value a WiFi connection, we were disappointed to find that the WiFi wasn't working for the entire week. And there was no sign of that changing anytime soon. Almost like they rarely have WiFi working, but it's technically installed so they can advertise it? Cynical of me?

Would I recommend the Basilica? Well, no. But it wasn't a disaster or a hell-hole. I didn't see any cockroaches, as others appear to. The location is remarkably good and will save you some taxi money, at the very least. I just don't think the Basilica offered true value for money, considering other members of our family staying in Paphos found themselves hotels that were palatial in comparison -- for not much more. The only downside for them was being a half-hour walk from the seafront.

If you just want something functional with a few highlights (clean pool area, air-con in rooms, relaxed/quiet atmosphere, friendly staff) and a GREAT location, it could be worth a look. I certainly didn't HATE it, it was just a disappointment considering the misleading literature and what you'd expect for the money we paid. Horrible white light in the bathrooms, too, showing every wrinkle/blemish in the morning!
