“It's not on the Atlantic, and it doesn't have a golden beach...”

We chose the hotel mainly because it is adults only, but also because it appeared to be quite modern, in good condition (refurbed) and in a convenient location a short bus ride from Paphos. Our room was an upgraded one with a sea view, I would recommend going for one of these as otherwise the view from your balcony could well be the scrubland to one side or alternatively the pool and walkways, which were in close proximity the other side. The room was a good size, well finished and everything worked. Tea making facility was included, which is always useful. No fridge though, I think one is available for extra payment.

The food and service were of good quality, although the choice of food didn’t have quite the variety we have seen at some other comparable hotels. Lunchtime food was available at the hotels second restaurant, near the beach area. The local restaurant next door to it was also good, and there were at least another two out on the main road, although we didn’t try these as we took the half board deal with the hotel. If you want the All Inclusive, it appeared to be cheaper to buy it at the hotel desk rather than pre book.

Although there were plenty of sun beds on grassed areas in the grounds, the beach itself was very small and seemed little used. Swimming was easy though, with plenty of space around the rocks, which also provided some shelter from the open sea.

Some evening entertainment was provided, which a lot of the older guests seemed keen on, filling up the seats in the small entertainments room very early in the evening. As late evening diners, we usually only caught the last hour or so, which was quite enough for us.

This was our first visit to Cyprus, we went in late September and the weather was still surprisingly hot. Paphos was, as expected, a large tourist resort with the usual harbour restaurants and boat trips, although it was generally fairly quiet when we were there, probably because we were slightly off season. There are a lot of excursions available, we were briefly tempted to go to the Tombs of the Kings nearby, until one of the local expats told us it was “only a big hole in the ground”. Eventually we settled for a half day boat ride up the coast to Coral Beach (said to be the best beach in the area), which was well worth it.

Room Tip: Its worth getting a sea view room

“Excellent Hotel”

Room spotless, sea view. Varied choice of food each day., Staff very friendly and helpful. Weather not too good, but it was the end of January, and there was plenty of games to do with the entertainment reps, quizzes, darts etc. Not much to do in area around the hotel, but at this time of year you could hire a car for about 60/70 euros for 10 days to get out and about. Nice atmosphere in bar and the club, candles on tables and waiter/waitress service for all your drinks, food was buffet style (except for the a la carte night). I found all the food to be brilliant, great choice. Deano and Becky the Thomson entertainment reps left half way thru' our holiday, but their replacements Tony & Andrew seem like great entertainers, very friendly (brilliant 'Mr & Mrs night' with 3 different couples on stage and Tony 'controlling' them, nearly...)., 32" flat screen telly in all rooms, bbc1/bbc2/itv/ch4 and other channels, we had kettle, coffee tea etc in room topped up on a daily basis, towels changed daily. Advertised as adults only, but there were children there from different countries, but they were no problem at all. If you want a holiday where you can walk out of hotel and into bars/restaurants, this is not the hotel for you. But if you want a relaxing holiday, with a nice pool, bar, 'cabaret' room, with excellent service and staff, then this is the hotel for you. As previous reviewers have mentioned, there is a regular bus service which stops outside the hotel, 615, which goes to either Coral Bay, or the other way to Paphos terminus, from where you can get other buses to other parts, all for a 2 euro daily ticket.

“Great Hotel!”

Spent the last 2 weeks of January at the Hotel. The service and facilities of the Hotel were faultless. Food was good and varied each night. There was no 'confusion' about drinks with the all Inclusive option, you could drink what you liked in whatever quantity. The team at the Hotel were superb with a special mention for Nicoletta in the Bar and Andreis in the Restaurant.

The Thomsons in house team were the best I have ever come across. A special thanks to Maria, Kym, Deano and Becky for making our holiday so effortlessly special. A job made particularly challenging by a minority of moaning pensioners, especially during a pre notified ,short duration, Cyprus wide power cut - but you get people like that everywhere!
Well done to all the team. I was embarrassed to be British.
Great Hotel. Superb break. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Go for an upgraded seaview room.

“Best Christmas/Newyear”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

1st time away at Xmas and New Year...had a fantastic time at this hotel...staff were brilliant, food excellent, evening entertainment very, very good. Room spotless, and cleaned every day. Thomsons reps, Deano and Becky were amazing....when do they every sleep...and Kellie and Andy ( Jinkz ) were superb. Weather was good, except for 3 days thunder, and spectacular lightning, but in was the end of the year, and absolutely no fault of the hotel or Thomsons...there was plenty to do in the hotel, so weather didn't bother us at all. Plenty of sunbeds etc round pool, and on the very green grass, as well as down by the sea. Only fault we found....the indoor pool was cold....unusual for an indoor pool...
Didn't need to drive if you didn't want to...excellent bus service...and for a 2 euro all day ticket, you could hop on as many buses as you wanted....great value.
Would definitely recommend this hotel, and look forward to staying there again....no hesitation.

“Service Second to None”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This was our first visit to the Golden Beach (having allways stayed at the Pioneer Hotel but due to closure had a change)
Although the Location is not as nice as the Pioneer, we could not fault anything else, and having a car helped.
The Staff are exceptional in all areas, reception, restaurant and evening bar staff. A special mention to the A La Carte restaurant staff they were lovely.
Afternoon bar staff not so friendly, a couple not mentioning names could do with a bit more training.
Michael and staff on reception, Nicolletts and Erica in bar need special mention .
A smashing Christmas and New Year, even though the weather was not that Brilliant.

Room Tip: Worth Upgrading to Superior room Jaccuzi bath and Sea View
