“Lovely hotel!”

I stayed in here for 2 weeks in August (2011) with my parents, 2 sisters, brother in law and my boyfriend and we all really enjoyed this hotel. I would of loved to of stayed longer. We stayed in sea view rooms and they were wonderful. Excellent service and the staff are really friendly. Really enjoyed happy hour every day, the cocktails were delicious. The air conditioner in the room is amazing. The breakfast is lovely but the evening food at the hotel is a bit repetitive at times, I did enjoy the nights where you eat outside and get some live entertainment though. The pool is not very deep but it's still nice and the smaller pool is great for sitting and reading your book in the sun. I also loved the fact that it was a adults only hotel, no children to spoil your stay. Just a nice peaceful pool area without the fuss (although I did have to get up early to grab a sun bed).
We've all said we'd stay here again (and I look forward to seeing what the refurbishment is like after 2012)

As for the area, I've stayed in Paphos a few times and this hotel is in a great location for the water park and it's quite a lengthy but nice stroll to the harbour. The bus is a life saver if you've had a big meal or a few too many drinks on the night time and it's good during the day too, if you're too hot to walk in the sun or want to get something from a shop quickly, it's cheap too (and air conditioned).

“Back at the Pioneer again.”

Yes from my vist to the Athena Beach in May I'm now back at the Pioneer, still a great place to stay, although they say it will close for 3 months and the staff seemed a little on edge as to what would happen. If they lose Victor and a few others which it seems they will, it may all go horribly wrong!
But that aside went with, obviously my with her brother and his wife and it was just great, weather fantastic, food great, entertainment still a little hit and miss. Not really that well organised, never seem to know what or who your going to get ( very different from the Athena). I will probably go to the Athen agian in early June next year, but also want to fit in the SOL Calagordana ( not sure I spelt that right) in Menorca.

Room Tip: Did not go for sea view this time, not sure if I should have or wether it's worth the extra?

“Excellent Hotel - excellent service”

I stayed for one week in June, superior room with sea view. It was a walk to the elevators, but the view was worth it. Roomsize was average, but comfortable (good bed) and the airconditioning excellent. Housekeeping keeps everything very clean, plenty of towels at all times. The pool is nice, but people tend to "reserve" poolbeds at 6am! Food is plentyfull and good, service was excellent and friendly, be it reception, pool bar, restaurant or hotel shop. Public transportation at 5min from the hotel.

“Home From Home”

We have stayed in this hotel now eight times in the last six years and thought it was about time I contributed a review. As you will gather we have always enjoyed our visits here. It is difficult to add to what has already been said about the Pioneer, which in my opinion is generally accurate overall. Sure it is mainly occupied by the older generation but why would anybody want to go to any other adults only hotel which cannot offer the value as it provides. We have always found it clean and hospitable with generally excellent staff especially in the main and regina restaurant. The reception staff can be somewhat indifferent. The hotel is around some 25 years old and in a condition commensurate with its age, although it is always kept imaculately clean in all areas. The bedrooms are very comfortable, however, the ones we occupied this time where not the best being on the ground floor over the boliers which seemed to run constantly, we benefitted from a side sea view but would have preferred rooms with a mountain view which we had booked. The hotel is to undergo a six month upgrade next month, I just hope they dont ruin the atmosphere, hospitally and general friendship it delivers and above all dont price it out of the market. We hope to return again one day.

“Very good now - should be excellent after the refurbishment”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

The main reason for choosing the Pioneer Beach Hotel was its 'adults only' policy. Sure this did mean the average age of guests could be described as 'mature' but the resulting peace and relaxation was precisely what we wanted for our first visit to Cyprus. A number of reviews have mentioned the bedrooms and public areas are beginning to look tired but the hotel is due to close for a six month refurbishment programme which should be complete at the start of May 2012.

One significant factor that underlines the standards of the Pioneer Beach was that regardless of the 'age' of the decor the housekeeping was particularly good. Our twin-bedded sea-view room was spotless and so were all the public areas (including external parts such the pool).

The selection at breakfast was extensive and overall quality was good. The very large restaurant was somewhat souless but this is also due to undergo a major transformation. There are a number of tables outside and as the weather was so good we took the opportunity to eat 'al fresco'. As we were on a bed and breakfast package we did not sample the other meals.

The hotel has two bars - one of a 'pub' style and the other a cocktail bar. In addition there is also a pool-side bar and a 'snack-bar' style restaurant open during the day. The hotel was busy (at least two-thirds full according to one of the receptionists) but at no time did we encounter any problems with getting a sun-bed. The hotel has its own small beach (again well supplied with sun-beds). For those looking for entertainment there was a programme of events but none were shoved down your throat as can be the case in some places.

The Pioneer Beach is located on the Posiedonas Avenue. There is also a very pleasant sea side walk which takes you into Paphos harbour. This takes between 30 and 45 minutes dependent upon the pace. On the 'avenue' side there is an excellent bus service (a 611 or 612 takes you into the centre of Kato Paphos) with a single fare of only 1 euro (or a day ticket for 2 euros or a weekly ticket for 10 euros).

One other major plus factor of the Pioneer Beach is the staff - without exception everyone we encountered was friendly and went out of their way to be of help.

Although it did not provide any annoyance to us it is worth noting the hotel lies under a flight path to Paphos airport but there are probably no more than 5 or 6 planes in a whole day using that route. Most of the other hotels on Posiendonas Avenue are in the same situation. There is an hourly bus service to and from the airport - it is not well advertised but at only 1 euro it is an absolute bargain.

Even if there was to be no refurbishment we would recommend the Pioneer Beach with the caveat about the tired decor. However, with the promise of the refurbishment our recommendation is even stronger and if they continue with the excellent standards of customer care and housekeeping then the rating is highly likely to be 'excellent'
