We stayed here 1st - 8th Feb 2012 and it is advertised by Thomson as 4 star. The food was excellent and the dining room was very clean. The waiting staff were very nice (mostly Romanian!). The Greek bar manager was quite surely and best avoided!!
The cleaners weren't up to much and the whole place could do with a good hoovering!!!
The hotel is the last on the strip and if you are infirm and like to get around I would choose somewhere closer to the harbour.
Whilst we were there the buses were on strike as they hadn't been paid for the previous month! This was very inconvenient for those who hadn't hired a car. We hired a car before we went and this saved a fortune (we paid £60 for a week) and the resort were charging £19.95 per day!
We would go again, at this price, but not for any more than £300 per person.

Myself and my partner, 23 and 21, wanted a week break and after looking at many hotels found the Phaethon Beach (pronounced 'Firefon') on the Travel Zoo website and from the reviews and photos thought that it looked fantastic. It was clear as soon as we arrived that this hotel is very much suited to the older generation, as we were the only people under 40 staying there. However, this did not put us off as we were looking for a quite holiday anyway and all the older people were lovely! The rooms were not exactly as I had hoped; we had a family room and was simple but very clean. Most of the rooms have been renovated and the bathrooms are very modern and spotless. Beds are a bit hard, but we anticipated this as we had read this in other reviews. They consist of all your usual applicances; hairdryer, TV - and British plugs sockets!! So no need to take an adapter with you. The rooms were cleaned every day, and the towels changed if they were dirty.

The hotel staff are brilliant, especially the managers who are always on site and get stuck in whenever they are needed. The food was fantastic, by far the best all inclusive food we have ever had. There is plenty of choice and a different roast every night with all the trimmings. The food is always hot, and the chefs continuously replenish the food and check the temperatures, which we thought was great.

The animation team definitely make this hotel what it is. Most of them are English and are always upbeat and providing great entertainment from bingo to quizzes, if that's what you want to do. The night time shows are brilliant and well worth watching, from Chicago to a UV show, we enjoyed it all.

Beware of the drinks - but not in a bad way, just the X Large measures that they give you, they are far from stingy with their spirits! The manager was on show behind the lobby bar most nights making special cocktails for all the ladies, which was a lovely touch.

The hotel is located about 5 - 10 minutes from the harbour by bus and about a 45-50 minute walk. You can get an all day bus pass for 2 euros and the bus drivers are always very helpful if ever you get lost. There were not very many places open as it was january when we visited, but you could tell it would be great in the summer.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel for young people looking for a lively holiday as there are just not the amenities for this, but for a couple/family holiday it seems as though it would be perfect in peak time.

Well done all at the Phaethon Beach, we would definitely consider going back...especially in the summer!!

Just returned from our first visit to this hotel but it won't be the last. It's a real gem. We chose it after reading TA reviews. It didn't disappoint. The food is incredibly good. If chef Bambos ever writes a recipe book I'll buy it! Try the fish in almond sauce & the soups. The beds are a bit hard. I slept ok but it would add to the comfort & hygiene if they used mattress pads. Overall, it's clean, tastefully decorated & comfortable, & the staff just can't do enough for you. The entertainment was our only real issue as we didn't feel it was what we wanted. The animation team were lovely kids but am I alone in wishing for a more mixed age group especially in winter when so many of us 'oldies' are there? I can imagine the reaction of a load of 20-somethings if they booked into a hotel & found the animation team were all pensioners! Well, same for us. And just because we're in our 60s it doesn't mean we want to see the can can & showgirls in feathers either (in fact we'd really rather not!). Whoever ran the entertainment must have thought it appropriate but it made us cringe. On a more positive note, the break dancers are great fun to watch, the laser part of the UV show is amazing & Kelly is a fantastic dancer. There seems to be some staff issue about the music volume in the bar & we felt this should have been resolved 'behind the scenes'. We loved the chance to choose our own music but at times you could hardly hear it being played. We also wanted more live music like the incredible Easiduo who performed in the bar on Tuesday nights & were, for us, the best entertainment of the week. If you choose this hotel for its winter dancing package be aware that all the classes are sequence dancing, not ballroom. The teachers will play ballroom music for you in the social dances if you want but as ballroom dancers it wasn't really what we had hoped for. Great if you're a keen sequence dancer but we ended up finding other things to do, which was a shame. The indoor pool was lovely & the huge whirlpool wonderful. My partner used the gym a lot but was concerned that although there was someone in attendance there was no help or safety advice in using what was some pretty complex & potentially dangerous kit. But don't let our few gripes put you off. This hotel is superb value for money & we had an amazing holiday. We heartily recommend it & can't wait to return.

A fabulous 2 week holiday in January escaping the British winter (with a party of 33!) and, whilst the Cyprus sun didn't always shine, we still made the most of our break. I have to say the Animation team are fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed joining in the daytime games and quizzes and the evening shows were brilliant - some very professional singing and dancing. Excellent service from everyone in the hotel and nice to see the manager Rudi circulating and checking all was well. Nothing was too much trouble and any faults in rooms were very quickly rectified. Delicious food with plenty of choice at every meal. A special Thank You to the Animation Team for their impromptu performance on the hotel steps as they bid us farewell and for the care and attention shown to our special guest.
Excellent bus service from outside the hotel and chance to travel throughout Paphos area on 2e daily ticket. Lovely walk along the coast from hotel to Paphos and beyond. Harbour area being improved and looking good.
