“Lovely hotel. Had a truly enjoyable stay here-amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

We stayed at the Queens Bay Hotel for 11 nights all inclusive towards the end of September/early October, and had a lovely holiday, with the added excitement of getting married over there.
We booked through Travel Counsellors/Olympic Holidays, and the service we received was 1st class.
The hotel is set in a superb location overlooking the sea, and has some stunning sunsets.
The only downside to the hotel is that it's not actually in Paphos Town, but a 20 minute bus ride away, or a 5 minute drive to Coral Bay. But, it's set just off the main bus route, and for only 2 Euros you can buy an all day travel bus ticket-bargain!
However, if you want a quietish relaxing break, this is definitely the hotel for you!
After a pleasant check-in, we were given a sea view room (which overlooked the bay and you could see some lovely sunsets from it).
The room was clean, and quite spacious, and we actually felt really comfortable in it.
You can't say that about many hotels/appartments abroad.
We had a decent size double bed and television, tea/coffee facilities etc.
We even found out the hotel does room service, on the last day of our stay-too late :-)
It was the first time we have both been all inclusive abroad, and we really enjoyed all the food and drink, courtesy of it.
We were allowed local alcoholic, and soft drinks, from 10am to Midnight, breakfast, lunch and evening meal, and also some of the items from the snack bar menu during the afternoon.
Food wise there was plenty of choice.
For breakfast you had choices of cereals, sausages, bacon, egg, beans etc and fruit, cheese, ham, yoghurts and toast, nicely washed down with orange or grapefruit juice, or tea/coffee.
For lunch it was salad based, but with some meats and chips or veg, and again a decent variety of items.
If you still felt hungry (which wasn't often) during the afternoon, the poolside snack bar served sandwiches, toasties, ice creams, burger and chips etc, which was included in the all inclusive deal.
Then onto the evening meal, which was again salad based and plenty of it, but also soups, and a variety of cooked main meals such as lamb, gammon, pizza etc. Occasionally they did a roast of the day as well.
And they even did theme nights such as Chinese with noodles, and sweet and sour etc.
And desserts, they ranged from cakes, ice cream to fruit such as melon and apples.
There was something for everyone and the food tasted nice.
The service is where the Queens Bay Hotel also excels.
On the day of our arrival Sonata, a lovely barmaid, who made us feel welcome, bought us up a bottle of champagne and some fruit to have in our room, which was a really lovely touch.
And, as previously mentioned we got married whilst over in Cyprus.
Although we didn't book our wedding through the hotel, they were mindful of the fact we were marrying, hence the champagne, and the fact we were given a complimentary sea view room,
and they also gave us a champagne cocktail each upon our evening return.
It made our wedding, and holiday even more enjoyable.
They were also quite happy for us to have some of our wedding photos taken on the hotel balcony and in the grounds.
We found the staff really friendly especially, Sonata, the bar staff guys, David Dorrington who it was nice to meet, and one of the restaurant managers (looked like Eugene Levy from the American Pie films), who worked tirelessly to make sure everyone was seated and served efficiently, and he made conversation with all of them.
The hotel decor is superb, and the place has a really chilled out friendly vibe to it.
There were the 2 restaurants, the one closest to the poolside bar was where we had breakfast and lunch, and the evening meal was in the other restuarant, I think Cassopia. In the day time the poolside bar was open, and in the evenings it was the main bar
near reception. We did find a cocktail bar which was next to the indoor swimming pool and gym, which not a lot of people knew about, though it was advertised in the lifts. This was lovely in the evening with candles on the tables and also had an indoor area to sit as well.
There was entertainment every evening in the main hotel bar/lounge area which, was quite enjoyable.
We really liked Take Two, who were really friendly, and did several shows during our show there-they even remembered to play our wedding song on the evening we got back.
Top stuff.
Also, the Club Karaoke was on twice whilst we were there, and the sound was really good. It was quite popular amongst the guests, and Kate did her best to fit everyone in. We also saw a magician show one evening which involved walking on spikes and eating fire etc.
I do believe there was also Bingo some evenings too, though we never made it to that.
We may have been oblivious to it sitting on the hotel bar balcony enjoying a cocktail or a beer.
The pool was a decent size. and there were plenty of sun loungers available during our stay, and the hotel grounds led to a very small beach area where you could have a swim in the Sea.
We met some nice people whilst at the Queens Bay, namely Harry and Pam, Sheena and Jeff, Sanjay and Derek and Margaret and Simon.
We had a superb time there, and can't recommend it enough. It's classed as a 3 star hotel, and it certainly deserves that, though the service was at least 4 star standard.
In fact, the service we received there was better than the majority of 4 star hotels we have stayed at in the Uk.
I am struggling to think of many negative things to say about the Queens Bay,
the location away from the town perhaps, and the fact the gift shop in the hotel is a little expensive, and doesn't sell newspapers. Free Wi-Fi would be nice too, although probably not feasable, I guess. Also I was charged 1 Euro to exchange Travellers Cheques, when I was previously told there was no charge. The air conditioning in the room was also very intermittent during the day time, though worked fine after 7pm in the evenings.
These are minor points, and didn't really detract from our lovely, relaxing enjoyable stay we had there.
Before I finish my review, I should mention we had a superb wedding celebration evening meal at the Italian Restaurant, Trattoria La Vigna at Coral Bay. Well worth visiting!
And we also did the half day heaven cruise on a luxury boat, which was great value at 45 Euros each.
This was all inclusive, included lunch, entertainment, a swim in the sea, some sightseeing,
and coach travel there and back to the hotel. Was a great day out.
ISo to sum it up, if you're over 30 and want a quiet, comfortable relaxing break, then the Queens Bay is well worth a stay.
I would say it's more suited for couples over 30 and mature, rather than families, and definitely not for the 18-30 type crowd.
We would love to return there in 2012 for our Anniversary, if it were possible.
We had a truly enjoyable stay here, and thanks to all at the Queens Bay who made our stay what it was-amazing!

Room Tip: 405 has a seaview and you can see some stunning sunsets from it.

I don't like to keep posting something from the hotel but I often think that I only respond to the negative reviews and that means I am ignoring many others.

So I do want to say thank you to cjm24 for this review and also to the 3 or 4 others that were posted over the winter. We do appreciate the good reviews - and the staff like to know they are being appreciated & remembered.
cjm, I hope we do see you for your anniversary. Make sure I know.

“We'll be back.”

We have been going to the hotel for the past 3 years now and have always found the staff very helpful and friendly. In 2010 we took relatives, who were visiting from Canada, on holiday to the Queens Bay Hotel because they wanted to see for themselves this hotel that we were giving good reviews about. They absolutely loved the hotel and the area of paphos. In May 2011 we took another couple on holiday with us to the hotel. On arrival at the hotel we were surprised by our Canadian relatives who, when they knew we were going back yet again, decided to join us to celebrate a 60th birthday. The staff ,when they found out about the birthday, presented a cake at the table along with a card from management and staff. Not many places would have done that for a guest. The seaview room that we had was a good size and was spotless. The meals that we had (half-board) were excellent. Buffet breakfast had plenty of choice of hot or cold along with different juices, coffee, tea,or milk. Dinner had a wide selection of cold starters and the inevitable soup (which was excellent and very hot). A wide selection of main dishes that were of really good standard and well cooked meats. Desserts were the usual gateaux, fresh fruit, cakes and a choice of ice-cream. Of course the best was the green and red jellies.(keep on making them chefs).Couldn't fault anything about the hotel or any member of the staff. We intend going back again in May 2012 with yet another couple who want to experience the hotel for themselves. This time All- inclusive. Incidentally the couple that we took to the hotel in May returned there in October because they had enjoyed themselves so much the first time.

Room Tip: book a seaview room with balcony.

“QBH Have it right on the money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011
15
people found this review helpful

Date of our visit: 12th October 2011. Length of stay: 11 nights Board basis: All Inclusive

First impression upon arrival: A welcoming, happy, relatively child-free zone.
Departing feelings: Sorry to be leaving, and intent on returning.

Read on for: Bedrooms; Staff; Lobby/Reception; Gardens, beach and pools area;
Entertainment; Birthdays & Anniversaries; Food; Drinks; Clientele; Single guests; 4 & 5 star features.

Bedrooms: Positives: Clean. Tea & Coffee making facilities. Hairdryer and TV. Security box (charged for).Wonderful sea views and sunsets from a compact but functional balcony. Suitcase stowage under beds, leaving adequate hanging, laydown and drawer space. Mattresses firm but comfortable.

Bedroom Negatives: Somewhat restricted floor space. Worn out scuffed skirting boards. Sound carried from entertainment through to bedrooms, but entertainment ended at about 12.00 midnight.

Bathroom was compact but clean. Suite was somewhat dated, but clean. An old-fashioned plastic shower curtain along the side of the bath could be a bit messy if not tucked into the bath sides. Good water pressure on the shower head. No need for your own soap because liquid washing gel dispensers were positioned by the hand basin and within the bath/shower space.

Note: I suspect that the size of the bedrooms dictates the 3-star rating of this hotel. Other facilities of the hotel rise to 4 star and 5 star.

Staff: First class. Nothing is too much trouble. 4 & 5 star rating.
Bar service: prompt and efficient.

Lobby/Reception: Computer terminals (charged €2 for 20 minutes). Hotel shop. Public phones. Entertainment area. Adjacent Bar lounge. Satellite TV (inc Premier League matches). Notice board showing what entertainment is on throughout the day, also the evening dinner menu is displayed.

Gardens, beach and pools area. Please ignore earlier scribbling about tiles missing around the pools. The pools are shiny-new and would suite any 5 star establishment. Peaceful lawned areas with sun beds and parasols. Adequate number of sun beds surrounded the pools therefore no need to ‘claim’ beds. No music blaring out. Bars on each side of the pools area. DIY guests laundry facility.
Beach: The nearest beach was 100 meters away from the hotel grounds, situated within a rocky cove, but barely accessible for those with mobility problems. However once there, the gently sloping sandy seabed offered easy access for sea-bathers.

As for entertainment: QBH catered for the needs of the 'older' clientelle – Daytime outdoor competitions (supervised). Evenings, Bingo, Quizes, professionally led Karaoke, Cabaret/Dance singers even if it seemed somewhat 'Phoenix Nights' at times - there was something on every night (ending around midnight) so as not to disturb other uninvolved guests.

Birthdays/Anniversaries: Management doesn’t let these things pass unrecognised. We were treated to a birthday cake, then two days later a bottle of bubbly (on ice) arrived at our room to acknowledge our wedding anniversary. .. Thank you QBH !!

Food:
Buffet Breakfast offered juices, coffees, teas, choice of cereals, yoghurt, fresh fruit salad, hot and cold options with the usual continental ham & cheeses etc. included. No bread buns but a selection of different sliced breads. In summary, plenty of choice.

Buffet Lunch: Cold starters including traditional dips and salads, soup, hot & cold options and veg’s. Over a number of days, some items could become predictable, but never poor quality. Drinks: table service or bar self-service. 4 ice cream flavours on offer. In summary, enough choice to tide you over to evening dinner.

Evening Dinner: A wide selection of Cold starters including traditional dips and salads plus soup. Again, over a number of days, some items could become predictable, but never poor quality. The mains hot buffet regularly included local meat & pasta specialities. Fish was always of the highest standard (and no bones). A carvery regularly featured on the buffet. Desserts included traditional cakes, gateaux, fresh fruit, jellies & ice cream. Table service for drinks. In summary, plenty of choice and better than 3 star.

Drinks: Good measures on AI drinks. A small supplementary charge for speciality drinks like Baileys and certain cocktails (circa €1.60). AI beer was Keo lager. AI wines: Red was a soft tasting similar to a Merlot or Shiraz. AI White was a semi-dry variety. Both of them were quite quaffable. Don’t expect fine wines on an AI deal.

Clientelle: mainly UK, some German/Austrian, more ‘Russians’ (East Slavics). Age profile: A few children (well behaved) 20-odds, to 70-odds, but skewed mainly in the 55 -65 age group.

Singles involvement: During my stay I witnessed a strong camaraderie between mixed singles guests. No singleton need have been left on their own (unless by choice). They gathered together throughout lunch time (and evenings) sharing a good laugh and swapping stories. What stood out was evidence that they were repeat visitors, year after year.

4 star features: Gardens/Lawn area,; Hotel entrance/Lobby Reception; Bar area; Evening Entertainment.

5 star features: Staff; New pool and pergola shading; poolside sun beds; Outdoor Sunset mezzanine terrace (stainless steel and plate glass balustrades). Sunset views.

Room Tip: Ignore previous scathing reports, they simply don't add up.

“Friendly Hotel in beautiful location”

The Queens Bay Hotel is in a beautiful setting in the Kissonerga area near to Coral Bay. A 'family run' hotel which offers good accomodation and lovely food and very clean - a clear indicator of the quality is the number of guests who return year after year.
The staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
The local buses service from Paphos to Coral Bay runs on the main road about 200 metres from the hotel providing easy cheap access to Paphos centre and harbour.
A lovely place to chill out and relax.
Already looking forward to our next trip...

Room Tip: Would definitely recommend a sea view room so you can enjoy the magnificant sunsets from your balcon...
