We have just come back from a week at this hotel. We stayed at the St George, just along from the Azia last October. The Azia is better in many ways but lets itself down in some areas. The pool and grounds are lovely, the pool side staff very attentive. The pool is very clean. Don't have the Cheeseburger at poolside as it is not beef and we could not get to the bottom of exactly what meat it was! The food generally is excellent both at breakfast and dinner, we were half board.
On arrival we were shown to our room that had broken air conditioning and a safe that would not lock. They moved us to a different room after some persuasion, but initially this had a very bad smell. However, this disappeared soon after the air conditioning was activated. We too were disappointed in the lack of tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The TV was not flat screen and there was no DVD player. Congratulations to them though for actually having the hairdryer situated in front of a mirror, but alas no chair! The room was very clean but we did have a room mate, a large cockroach, who was more frightened of us, so we lived happily together for a week, but did advise the staff of his presence.
I agree that the reception staff were not very friendly but the staff in the rest of the hotel, who work really hard, make up for the few miserable ones. Kevin was very helpful along with Kordelia. The chef was excellent and we really looked forward to our evening buffet.
During our stay there was a large financial conference and the canadian military staying. Neither were a problem. The hotel is generally very quiet and relaxing.
The other downside for me was the intense sewer smell at the front of the hotel and the amount of rubbish locally.
Overall we found the Azia suited our needs better than the St George who are more geared up for families. We would not revisit either hotel as we have been to Cyprus twice now and need to move on. We do think that the Azia should either up its game and finalise some extra touches to gain a 5 star rating or down star accordingly to a 3.5 - 4 star. There is a hotel being built next door but it was very quiet during our stay and we only had one day when we heard a cement mixer.
