Day 1:My partner, son and I booked two apartments. We arrived late at night (added time was wasted as the taxi found the complex hard to locate). The guy at reception was courteous but on taking us to the apartments, he was a bit dismissive. My first call was to open the kitchenette cupboard doors in what was to be my son's room. I am afraid that Mr C Roach was at home!!! I mentioned this to our host, who said, " We have cockroaches in this country. There's nothing you can do. They fly in.". I pointed out that I was aware of the large, flying variety but these were the small, running (non-flying) variety. He said that he would arrange for the area to be sprayed.
Day 2: We unpacked and explored the apartments further. Our kitchenette had a very effective fridge, which was great as we needed to store stuff for packed lunches and breakfast. The fridge was clean and a good seal meant that we could be confident that our food would not be attracting the local wildlife. The folk who complain about ants, slugs and cats (and FLYING roaches) need to accept that these are part of the natural environment. Clear up after yourself and you'll be fine. The ants don't like anti-bac spray.
On the downside: the kitchenettes had a random collection of cutlery and crockery. The dented and rusty turrine was definitely unusable.many of the other items looked like they had been put away by those who had last used them- dirty! Only after spending a significant portion of our first morning cleaning food preperation areas and utensils were we able to prepare breakfast and snack lunches.
We used our kitchenette throughout our stay, as despite ours (and the lady who serviced the rooms) best attempts, Mr C Roach remained in residence in my son's apartment and, in fact made some friends So his kitchenette was unusable.
Rooms reasonably clean, apart from cockroaches. Shower temperature- great. Bedding changed regularly. Towels were elderly and discoloured and were not changed during our week. (Thankfully, we had brought our own towels.)
Derisory comments about the pool area at the Tasiana do not reflect our experience. We found the pool to be clean and safe. The only litter was from inconsiderate users. The lady who attended to the pool was passionately cleaning when we used the pool.
It was necessary to pay for air-con. as long as you understand that this is an additional charge-it's fine and effective.
We did not feel, as other reviewers have mentioned, a threat to security. However, it must be noted that not all rooms have a safety deposit box (ours didn't).
THINGS WE LOVED:
Cypriana Taxi (very near the apt)- Lovely local firm who took us on a fabulous tour of the Troodos Mountains.
Cafe Brio: Fantastic hospitality. Food is amazing. You are doing yourself a disservice if you don't go. (located at Hallmark Complex).Cuisine largely Italian. (Landmark:Starbucks)
St Raphael Bay - Gorgeous sandy beach. Great for kids. Jet ski and other watersports, very well controlled in terms of safety.
Torist Information: (on the left of the dual carriage way, heading west). Helpful, knowledgable staff. Free maps and booklets.
AIDA car hire- Very professional set up. Almost opposite Torist Information.
Buses: They are reputed to be infrequent- we found the buses (particularly no 30) reliable & cheap. 2 euros to ride up and down the Limassol coast all day, Kids go free!
Summary: We felt that there was a lack of co-ordinated management of the Marianna Apartments. The lady who serviced our rooms wanted to help when we raised issues but some of the issues were beyond her remit. Someone should take ownwership, for the sake of the customers but also the business. It may only be a matter of time before the roaches take hold of many apts (they are so invasive!). This could pose serious health and repuational issues.
