We have just returned from the GrandResort, our third visit this year. The hotel may have changed its name three times in the fourteen years that we have stayed there, but the ambiance remains, it is like an oasis set in beautifully landscaped tropical gardens, on a superb beach side location in the very exclusive Amathus area of Limassol, but 10 miles well away from Limassol’s tourist area. Exclusive is not a throw away adjective as within walking distance is a house nearing completion priced at €25m!
The guest rooms offer sheer comfort plus enormous beds; the en-suite bathroom is complete with bath/shower, toilet and bidet. Fresh towels and bed linen are provided each day. The public areas, amenities and restaurants are of a UK five star standard. The breakfast buffet selection is vast and must be the best in Cyprus including fresh fruits and vegetables, freshly in-house made breads, a hanging honeycomb when in season, smoked salmon, cheeses, meats, hot dishes and omelettes prepared to meet any requirement. Special dietary requirements are catered for, hot drinks are served to the inside and outside tables by the impeccably turned out staff – all of whom speak a variety of languages.
There is a magnificent pool adjacent to a tree shaded area and the sandy beach, the pool staff only too willing to lay out the sun bed towels. Though the hotel was fully booked during our visits, there was always plenty of room to sunbathe as many of the guests were conference delegates. Near the pool is a wonderful open air restaurant providing both à la carte and hot and cold international buffet – all well priced.
Yes, we have dined in the other hotel restaurants, the Oriental one being spectacular as the food is cooked in front of you. Tycoons Bar and the open air adjacent Ethnic lounge managed by Ronnie remains inviting with its cocktails and live night time entertainment.
Weddings are frequently held at the GrandResort sometimes for up to 5000 guests that proves the esteem that the locals have for the hotel. Many dignitaries have visited the hotel from the British Prime Minister to our Queen. The management is always present and nothing is too much trouble for them. Georgios Lintis, the Operations manager is seen from morning to late at night busily checking that all the operational staff have left nothing to chance, meanwhile Angelos Sergiou, the Beverage and Banqueting Manager is always on hand to ascertain that one’s wining and dining experiences meet the GrandResort’s five star rating for all guests young and old.
The GrandResort is among the finest five star hotels in Cyprus, it is indeed an exceptionally grand and elegant hotel offering an impressive range of facilities and an unrivalled standard of personal service.
Room Tip: Go for a sea view facing Limassol to see the spectacular sunset at 18:30
