“Lucky apartments”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2010

Have recently returned for staying at the Lucky Hotel apartments just outside Larnaca.
Searched for any info but the internet brochures just said close to the beach,so decided to start my own comments.
The apartments were comfortable and clean but i n serious need of a make over.Decor was simple but most of the equipment in the aprtment was old and a bit tatty.Towels frayed, showers though clean were old and obvious signs where they had been repaired.
The swimming pool and gardens were very pleasant though I never saw anyone actually cleaning the pool. The people and staff were so very friendly and helpful acting almost as quickly as you asked.
"Close to the beach".Well yes around 5 minutes walk, but not the best of beaches.Quite dirty in places.Sunbeds around 2.30 euro.Far better to walk to palm beach around 1km away where the beaches were better.
A few restaurants around and plenty of shops to buy self catering stuff.
In my opinion a car is needed as it wasn't the best situated location.

I cannot say it was bad but a case of we got what we paid for,a cheapie so I was of the mind that it was reasonable for the price.better places to go but more expensive.
Altogether no serious complaints.

“Does exactly what it says on the tin!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 May 2010

We booked lucky hotel because of its VERY resonable rates and good location.
Myself, 2 friends and my 2 year old son all stayed for 30 Euro's per night total! The Staff were lovely, the pool was clean, the rooms were basic but what do you expect for less than 10 euro's each! Great service and handy little play area to keep kids occupied with table and chairs close by so you can soak up the sun whilst kids are entertained. We really enjoyed ourselves there and even though we only stayed 2 nights we still popped back a couple of times during our trip to use the pool and say hello to the staff. I would definatly stay there again.

“Oh My God! This place is awful!!!”

To say these apartments were dirty, is an understatement. We arrived at the hotel late afternoon on the 11th May 2008 to a very dirty apartment. One of the wardrobe doors was hanging off, which in itself is very dangerous. The walls in the living/dining/kitchen area were splattered with what I can only described as left over food. The curtains in the living room and bed rooms were mouldy and stained. The bathroom walls and ceiling were covered in mould and the tiles in the bathroom again were full of scum and mould. The two-ringed cooker hob was grimey and greasey. As you can probably guess we went straight to the owner to complain. He moved us to another room.
This was only marginally better. Again the curtains were mouldy and dirt stained and in this room they had the additional extra of being ripped to shreds too. The bed sheets were stained, the carpets were stained and again the cooker rings were grimey and greasy, however it was late at night now so we agreed to move rooms and give it a go.
We reported these problems to our tour operator, who in turn gave us an emergency number for any problems we may want to sort out. How grateful we were of this number over the next few days.
We had cockroaches in the wardrobe, my husband had to check my clothes before I could put them on each day.
I put the cooker rings on one day to actually attempt to make some breakfast....... this was when the cooker rings decided to blow up on me, covering me in beans, there was a load bang and blue sparks coming out of one of the rings!
Needless to say we moved to a different hotel.
I would not go to the Lucky Apartments ever again or even recommend them to my worst enemy.

I have been working at this hotel for two and a half years now and was extremely suprised by the comments made by this particular guest. if the hotel was indeed as bad as she claims there is no way that it would have passed a strict annual CTO inspection (they have the ability to close down hotels without notice if not up to standard) and i would not be happy to continue working here.Cockroaches, unfortunately, are a way of life in Cyprus - I'm sure even the Nicosia Hilton has them. You can spray as much as you like, but this will not prevent them from flying in through open windows.Regarding the electric hotplate blowing up - this was checked by a certified electrician and found to be in working order with no faults at all.As a final note I would like to point out that due to a clerical error by her tour operator this guest was charged a total of seven euros per day for the room when she made her booking. I am not quite sure here what she expected for seven euros per day - the Ritz perhaps. The Lucky Hotel is a small family run hotel that has many, many guests who have been coming here every year for 20 years and love the place.

“cheap and cheerful (sort of)”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2007

Set in the Idillic location just 200 yards away from a ‘beach’ made of stones and shingle, Lucky hotel resides in between the power station to the East and the large collection of oil refineries in the West. The optimistically named ‘Larnaca Bay’ is made up of 3-4 beach front hotels, several 60’s throw-backs, 4 hire car and 6 taxi firms (as well as 3 restaurants including a pizza hut).

As two 17 year old travelers on our first holiday without parents we needed maximum bang for our buck. Although the holiday itself was a great experience, Lucky sometimes left a little to be desired.

As naturally optimistic people, we would like to think we made the most of our stay.

Our first impressions were that of a hotel that was somewhat dated in comparison to parent-funded holidays! After taking 'The Death Lift' to the 1st floor, we stumbled along the dimly lit corridor (we later discovered there was indeed a light switch - and it did take until day 2).

Apartment was spacious for 2 however sharing with 4 could have been very uncomfortable - especially for the 2 who would have to take the dated sofas. Bathroom was in dire need of updating and the smell of urine lingered for the duration of our stay (it really wasn't us!).

On 2 occasions we were greeted with a cockroach upon returning to the apartment. Which we took lightly and we will no doubt be look back and laugh.

The addition of free wi-fi was convenient for contacting relatives, however, they use the term 'wi-fi' in the same way they use the term 'bathroom' - loosely. The connection was slow and would not reach past the lobby area.

The pool was nice and well kept with plenty of sun beds and amenities and the beach in only 200m away - however this is a shingle beach, although a safe, sandy beach is a short walk away.

There is a restaurant serving food throughout the day - however breakfast is somewhat lacking, comprising of toast, choice of 2 cereals, some meat and cheese (which looked less than apetising) plus tea and coffee Food in the hotel it is well priced although there are many other affordable eateries.

To conclude, Lucky provides the basics to those with a tighter budget. All guests were light-hearted and happy, some of which have visited Lucky in the past and vow to return again!
