Set in the Idillic location just 200 yards away from a ‘beach’ made of stones and shingle, Lucky hotel resides in between the power station to the East and the large collection of oil refineries in the West. The optimistically named ‘Larnaca Bay’ is made up of 3-4 beach front hotels, several 60’s throw-backs, 4 hire car and 6 taxi firms (as well as 3 restaurants including a pizza hut).
As two 17 year old travelers on our first holiday without parents we needed maximum bang for our buck. Although the holiday itself was a great experience, Lucky sometimes left a little to be desired.
As naturally optimistic people, we would like to think we made the most of our stay.
Our first impressions were that of a hotel that was somewhat dated in comparison to parent-funded holidays! After taking 'The Death Lift' to the 1st floor, we stumbled along the dimly lit corridor (we later discovered there was indeed a light switch - and it did take until day 2).
Apartment was spacious for 2 however sharing with 4 could have been very uncomfortable - especially for the 2 who would have to take the dated sofas. Bathroom was in dire need of updating and the smell of urine lingered for the duration of our stay (it really wasn't us!).
On 2 occasions we were greeted with a cockroach upon returning to the apartment. Which we took lightly and we will no doubt be look back and laugh.
The addition of free wi-fi was convenient for contacting relatives, however, they use the term 'wi-fi' in the same way they use the term 'bathroom' - loosely. The connection was slow and would not reach past the lobby area.
The pool was nice and well kept with plenty of sun beds and amenities and the beach in only 200m away - however this is a shingle beach, although a safe, sandy beach is a short walk away.
There is a restaurant serving food throughout the day - however breakfast is somewhat lacking, comprising of toast, choice of 2 cereals, some meat and cheese (which looked less than apetising) plus tea and coffee Food in the hotel it is well priced although there are many other affordable eateries.
To conclude, Lucky provides the basics to those with a tighter budget. All guests were light-hearted and happy, some of which have visited Lucky in the past and vow to return again!
