“A very nice hotel”

We stayed at this hotel (2 couples, US and Romania) before and after New Year's Eve 2011, upon arrival and departure from Larnaka airport (it is about 14 km away/20 minutes, 35 euros by taxi). It is on the beach. By car, it is about 10 minutes from a more active town beachfront with restaurants and shops (though right around the New Year's Eve many were closed). Hotel had various activities organized and different "international food nights" for every night. The best things about the hotel: diverse age groups, lobby, bar, caffe, excellent breakfast buffet and a cooking station, and nice area, beautiful grounds, clean rooms with nice balconies (rooms/balconies not large but comfortable). Seaviews are beautiful. The only "negatives": wifi should work and be free and reception staff should be more receptive to what a client wants when rooms are allocated upon arrival; other than that, a very nice hotel overall.

Room Tip: Be clear and firm about what you want as that can determine the quality of your stay and memories ma...

“Good place for honeymoon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

We got married in Cyprus and stayed at Palm Beach for three days after the wedding. Overall, I am very pleased with the hotel. The room was clean and good, the breakfast was great. When I cut my leg in the sea the bellboy tended to it quite professionally. Although, there wasn't any hotel staff on the beach at the time, and my husband had to go inside the hotel to find someone and that took quite a lot of time - so, don't try drowning there, they might not come in time to save you:)
We got a "honeymoon package", which included room decorations (red hearts on the bed, flowers on the table, and two lonely looking little balloons on the mirror), champagne (quite good!) and fruit baskets, breakfast in the room
(good, but downstairs the choice was much better) and coupon for a candlelight romantic dinner. Well, as for the dinner, it was not at all romantic, and there were no candles. The dinner was a theme buffet - "A French night". The dining room was extremely crowded, there was loud live music (pretty bad), so we asked to be seated in the farest corner, so we wouldn't hear the music. But the waiters almost never went to that corner, so our plates stayed at the table forever, and I had to put them on some space near, because our table was extremely small. We weren't warned that the drinks are not included (I suspected so much about wine, but we had to pay for tea and water as well!). The food was terrible, except for some desserts, so we left hungry. The waiter was quite rude, and when I asked for sweet red wine, repeating several times, that I don't drink dry wine, we were brought dry wine. We didn't drink it, but didn't want to deal with the rude waiter anymore, and really wanted to leave, so we never asked him to change it. But at the exit, when asked to pay for the drinks, we refused to pay for the wine, since it wasn't what we asked for and
we didn't drink it. The waiter first give a speech on how we shouldn't do something like that and we should have told them before (as if he ever came to our table after he brought wine), and then went to our table to check that we weren't lying about the wine! So, I definitely don't recommend dining at the hotel, there are plenty of great restaurants around there.
The reception staff was very professional.

“Off peak season = Poor service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

Just returned from a 5 day stay at this hotel. The Hotel is rated a 4 star so our comments below are made based on our expectations and experience of 4 star hotels and the price they command. Its also based on our experience of staying there during off season which could be different during the peak season.
Its outside the city so not in a busy location, but there are quite a few bars, cafés, shops etc nearby, so as to provide a good alternative to being in the hotel. However alot were closed for this time of year.
The costal view is ok, if you look straight ahead. Look right and you see a big gas works, look left and you got some other industrial plant.
The hotel itself was virtually empty which had its plusses and minuses
The positives
- Hotel is clean and looks presentable. The Xmas lights on the fron of the hotel looked really nice
- Gym is quite good for a hotel gym
- Not being busy made it feel quite private. Though we think during peak times the pool area would be quite congested, crammed in like sardines sprang to mind.
- The car park is quite large and with Cyprus driving on the same side of road as us, made hiring a car to get about a more practical and cost effective way than bus or taxi.

Negatives
- Not all the amenities and facilities were open. Some to be expected as we were there during off peak season.
- Service was very poor/non-existent. The just didn’t want to be bothered with doing anything. We could list many occasions and situations where we interacted with the hotel staff, had a question for them or required a service from them, but each time it pretty much came down to the same type of response -- They just did not want to help or do anything , it felt like asking them was an inconvenience to them. The hotel was we reckon 10% full so it wasn’t as if the staff were very busy. This was something you would not expect at a hotel, especially one purporting to be a 4 star (in season or off season)

Breakfast
- Was ok, though heated food was not always hot, 2 times we came down to breakfast on opening time ( 7am) and the food wasn’t warm, odd as if it was freshly made it should have been piping hot then? That and a few other observations made us question how fresh the food they served was.

Restaurant
- Had a meal one evening in the restaurant. The food was ok, though we felt that it was not worth the price charged, especially compared to the cost and quality of some of the café/restaurants nearby. Service though wasn’t good, no sooner had you finished one course, the plate was taken away and the next one put down. Too quick and rushed. Considering there were about 10 people in the restaurant that evening it wasn’t as if they were overworked. Maybe they just wanted to get off work early.

The rooms
- Basic and a bit dated, but clean. We were given a twin bed room. Despite this large hotel being 10% full, they were not able or didn’t want to find us a room with a double bed.

House keeping
- On the most part the room was cleaned, but few times this was only partly done.
- One occasion a staff member came in to check the mini bar, his whole attitude and how he conducted himself stunk and he had no respect for the fact we were actually in the room at that time.

Overall, we were not that impressed and glad our stay was only a short one. We wouldn’t go back and wouldn’t recommend it as if we pay for a 4 star hotel, we don’t want to get 1 star service and 2 star accommodation

Room Tip: Sea view rooms cost extra, but is the view of the gas works woth it. Inland view overlooked car park...

“Reception staff ruder and more unhelpful than any I have ever met”

This was my second stay at the palm beach - here in September too (not my choice -booked in by work) and unfortunately the abiding memory is the unhelpful and unfriendly reception staff. Hotel otherwise just about ok but definitely not 4 star. Bungalows are in need of a refurb.
