“quirky comments from someone on THIS planet”

I stayed here the same time as the Scotslad who wrote the scathing review. I on the other hand had one of the best holidays in my 60 years. The staff were the most attentive and the hotel fabulously clean. Granted the hotel is of the so called boutique variety and may not be to everyones taste but hey you cannot please some of the people all of the time. If you are a full time moaner then this is not for you, but believe me you will meet all kinds of people whilst travelling and sadly some of them live in cloud cuckoo land. Well done the Nostaglia for making it a memorable holiday while dealing with difficult people.

“Amazingly cozy and comfortable, perfect location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 April 2010

We stayed at this hotel after searching for it via our travel agency and the internet and although we were puzzled by some of the negative comments despite the reassurance of our agency we decided to stay at this place. It was nonetheless the best decision for the 5 of us who were extremely amazed with the coziness and cleanliness of the place. The foods were amazing and the staff was friendly. Most of all the location was the most perfect location to get to know the city and travel around. Everything is within easy access and all the little shops are around. It's literally 2 mins away from the heart of the harbor but yet it's location is far away from the noises of the young. We would definitely recommend this place. Don't be puzzled by the negative reviews as the hotel looks like it has recently been completely refurbished.

“Wonderful hotel in ideal location”

Stayed here in Feb with VJV tour. Old Turkish building in narrow cobbled street, no more than 5mins walk (I walk very slowly) from the lovely harbour, Castle and restaurants/cafes.
I don't know what the Heritage rooms are but I stayed in the old building on ground floor. I had a spacious room, very comfortable bed and perfectly good bathroom with powerful shower and constant hot water. Everywhere very clean. Never heard the Mosque calls to prayer.
The restaurant is in the old building and the food was excellent better than the 2 restaurants where we had included dinner out. Breakfast was good with hot dishes as well as rolls, ham cheese etc.
Staff were all very helpful and accommodating.
Who wants TV on holiday in such a delightful area as Kyrenia.
Would recommend to anyone not looking for balconies, and modern buildings but character and originality.
The only grumble I heard was when we had the rain & floods and, as the roof is open, anyone upstairs had to use an umbrella to walk down the stone steps which were wet and a bit slippery. Some of us were happily confined to the Hotel for the day and the brave ones from the new part were wading through the flooded streets to the restaurant.
Some even braved the Harbour for photos. We all treated this day as another adventure.

“Go here as a last resort!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2009

I travelled here as part of Travel One, had heard many favourable reports on this hotel, but bouyed up by previous successful trips with the same company, I chose this hotel.

What a mistake! Travel One books their guests into the "Heritage" rooms; they sound classy, don't they? No, they're not. For "Heritage", read "Cheap". These rooms are in the main building of the hotel and whislt there has obviously been some effort put into refurbishment, it is haphazard to say the least!

All the rooms are different in size as are bathrooms. Showers rarely work fully even when there is hot water. There are varying designs of shower so if you move rooms, you have to learn all over again how to work it. Shower cubicles are often so tight, you need to be ultra slim to fit inside, otherwise you bang your elbows. Televisions are all different, but rarely fully tuned in, or have missing buttons on the fasica. Lights rarely have switches inside the door, but are often half way across the room. Furniture rarely sits squarely on all legs, such that everything wobbles.

But the major problem are the beds. Some of them appear to have been in situ for decades. I'd 4 changes of room in one week, due simply to beds that were so uncomfortable. Sleep was impossible.

Avoid Room 3; its twin beds will each have you sloping downhill as they sag head frst towards the headboards.

Avoid Room 18 lkike the plague; not only is this the noisiest room in the whole hotel, it has a metal frame and mattress which combined are so uncomfortable, it is akin to sleeping on a saddle, If there was a Gold Medal for the most uncomfortable bed in the world, this would win it every year! This room is next to Reception; you get woken up by everyone coming in and out of the hotel; you get woken by the night clerk watching TV through the night in the adjacent Lounge and despite his young age, he must be hard of hearing as he plays the TV so loudly.

Yes, the hotel is quirky with lots of knick-knacks & memorabilia etc, lying about the premises, but if only the management could have spent as much time, effort & resources to the basics like beds, workable showers and so on, as they have putting together what appears like a Junk Shop, then maybe standards would be higher.

The bedrooms in the newer wing across the street are of a much higher standard and from what I witnessed, are recommended. These are used by other Tour Companies - they're not fools, they know the differences between the 2 types of rooms.

On the plus side, the Restaurant produced such great food; as an ex-Hotel Manager, I was impressed and the young Chef is to be recommended. Breakfasts were a bit hit and miss. The housekeeping standards were very good indeed, no faults there at all.

On another negative side, the few sunbeds around the pool all had some fault or another. Please note too, not to use the large mustard yellow cushions which are piled up around the poolside, on which people lie to sunbathe; these invariably smell of the previous occupant's sweat - these cushions I don't think have seen soap and water in years!

This hotel would be far better if there was just a bit more time, care and attention spent on it.

The resort could not be faulted; the harbour is totally photogenic and an absolute gem!

“definitely will be visiting this place again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2009

This was our 3rd visit to North Cyprus. The other 2 times were in the spring which seems to be a better time to visit in terms of the weather since it is still very hot during this season. We heard of this hotel from another couple while we were there 2 years ago and we decided to try a different option this time. It was definitely a great choice! (if you want a hotel that is more luxurious and outside of the city hustle i would definitely check out Onar Village hotel which is still only 5 mins away from the city center with a cab) The nice thing about Nostalgia was that you could walk everywhere in the city center and they were all a few mins away including the Kyrenia castle, the old harbor, the shopping center street that has many jewelry and clothing shops, restaurants and bars..etc. Nostalgia had very nicely decorated rooms with antique furniture. The room was very newly refurbished and in immaculate condition. The toilets and the bed were all very clean, the dinners were excellent and very delicious. The staff were all very helpful...The second section of the hotel which appears to be the newer part has a very cute and cozy bar with ottoman style decorations on the wall. This section also has a very clean small pool that you can relax by during the day. This bar also seemed to attract other young people from outside on the weekend which added a nice spice to our time there. Everything was as we expected and more in this hotel. Anything that you may need during your stay here the staff seems to somehow be able to supply you with it so we would definitely stay in this place next time we visit Cyprus as well!
