Very old hotel badly maintained no shower gel nor shampoo very noisy boulevard sounds Like a highway not recommended

Good hotel with private parking...just 2 minutes away from the centre

Rix Hotel was well located on Boulevard Royal which bordered the old town centre. It was very easy to get to and was a short walking distance from all shops and attractions. The private hotel car park was a big plus. When you are leaving they allow you to leave your car in the car park until you head off for your next destination.
Reception was quite friendly and helpful. The hotel lift is extremely small meaning when you have luggage it is one person at a time. We had room 32 and noted that each floor only had a couple of rooms.
Like many city hotels the room was a bit smaller. Furniture made it a bit crowded but there was plenty of storage space. The bed and pillows were a bit lumpy. There was a nice balcony overlooking the city. It had metal shutters to block out various city noises. However the internal walls did not block out sound as well. The bathroom had a bath and was well stocked but there was no coffee facilities and no internet in the lobby.
Breakfast was an adventure. Being a boutique hotel we had high expectations. Everything on offer was of good quality but the buffet was extremely limited. Each morning we were there we were completely by ourselves and the lack of ambience including no background music meant you could hear a pin drop. It felt like we did not belong there.
One draw back to this hotel was its website. It had been very difficult to know what to expect because the website provides almost no information about the hotel. We received a brochure on departure which would have served better when we were researching it.
