“very good for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2010

first of all, the appearance was very nice, romantic and clean. location was no problem, or rather, you dont have to worry about hotel's location in this small city. anywhere is within walking distance!
we paid some 130 euros for one night stay, which turned out very reasonable or more than that, because we were satisfied with a clean room and great breakfast.
the only problem i can think of is that TV was located at a strange place in a room.
but this is neither a problem because there was only one english tv program going on there. i dont know whether this is the case with every hotel in this city.

“Comfortable-No Frills Digs”

Le Chatelet was the third hotel we stayed in on a recent auto tour of Belgium and Luxembourg. We reserved on Expedia and based on the rate selected an economy room.
The room was very spartan, much like a dormitory room, and had two twin beds with thin mattresses on a platform of wood slats. We were on the ground floor of a wing that was out the back door and through a small courtyard. The entry to this rear section was through a glass paneled door that was unlocked much of the time. Our room was spare but clean, and the water was hot in the shower. We had a ground floor room, and the noise of the passing traffic on the street and sidewalk was considerable. Breakfast was more German style than French continental, there were several breads, cheeses and sausage as well as Yogurt, cereal and fruit. TV was available in the room but no English language programs were available. Internet was accessable only via a computer in the lobby, and waits were often considerable. Parking was not a problem for us, but the lot did fill up in the evening. Finally the hotel is about a 25-30 minute walk from the scenic and historic parts of the city, but parking there was a problem so I advise walking.

“Charming Hotel with flower boxes reasonable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2010

My husband and I spent 5 weeks traveling in Europe, nine countries. We took the train to this city and found our hotel late, after nine. It was an easy walk from the train station. Our room was across a small parking lot but was lovely on the first floor, with a huge bathroom and giant tub. It had a small refer too. The manager recommended a great Italian restaurant that was still open. We went there and the portions were so huge we brought the left overs back and put in the fridge.

Our bed was very comfortable, and I'm picky about beds.

Free internet and computer were available in the main TV, and library area. The breakfast was wonderful with a great variety of food, including scrambled eggs, soft boiled eggs, bacon, juices, pastries, cheeses, cereals, lunch meat, etc. The diningroom was not crowded at all when we dined. The staff was helpful and spoke fluent English. We liked it so well we spent another night. After a day of sightseeing our hotel clerk warmed our leftover pasta from the night before for us and set it on a tray on a plate with silverware. We ordered wine to go with it.

At $107 Euros a night with NO TAXES it was well worth it!

“Disaster!”

Let me start with the hotel building itself. We'd got a superior room in the second building right behind the main one. However, the two are not connected - going to the reception, or the breakfast-room one has to step out and cross the parking lot. Not very pleasant in pouring rain or freezing cold, I must say!
The building had neither fire-detector nor fire-exit, but a cracking wooden staircase leading to our room in the second floor and in fact, the only way up and down...
The gate of our building was a simple glass door opening directly to the street (we had a key for it) didn't seem too secure either!
There was no elevator (only in the main building), so it wasn't that easy to carry our heavy luggage up to the room.

The room was spacious and light, but poorly furnished. The bed was simply a nightmare, a thin matras on an iron frame; we had 3 horrible nights on it!
The tv-set didn't work first and had to call the reception.
But, what really shocked us was the bathroom and toilet (!) without doors...and that was a so-called 'superior' room! How about the other ones??

Then, the parking....The hotel advertises itself with parking facilities, but it is simply a lie! There are only 12 parking spaces for 48 rooms. This means that most guests cannot have one at all!! Then, starts the poblem when one has to find a parking somewhere in the neighbourhood...
Although we stayed several days, the staff didn't even bother to tell us that the city-center and the main access roads to the hotel are completely closed during Luxemburg City Marathon. Result: 2 hours trying to reach the hotel in vain. When we complained the guy simply answered "well, it is announced weeks ago!" That was our 3rd day in the country...
The breakfast-room was too small and crowded, guests had to share tables with each other.
Before anyone would say that we shouldn't have expected more from a cheap, 3-star hotel, then let me say that it was not cheap at all! When we returned home, we checked other hotels (Grand Hotel Cravat, Novotel, even the 5-star Hilton) and found that they offered more or less the same price for that period.
Many people don't even try booking a room in 4-, or 5-star hotels, presuming that they surely cost much more. And this is what such bad hotels exploit shamelessly! But, in the end of the day one pays the same, or even more than in a luxury hotel.
We travel frequently, but it was probably our worst experience ever! Thus, obviously we don't recommend it at all. Forget this address!
Oh, yes, the croissant was delicious.....!

“Horrible experience”

When we arrived, our booking seemed to be lost - we had a print out of the booking, but they had no details themselves. A poor compromise was made for our first night, trusting that the rest of the stay would make up for it - it didn't and when we made it known we weren't happy, the man who was the manager when we visited did nothing but blame others and say that he couldn't do anything. When we were about to leave all of a sudden a 'spare' room came back to mind. We did stay, but the room was quite bad. It was meant to be making up for the first night which sucked unbelievably, but the rest of our time there just mad us mad. The manager went form blaming others to lying to us, to trying to deny responsibility.
If you do come here, I hope you don't have to meet this man.
