This 3 star hotel is run by a very efficient husband and wife team with very few other staff. It is situated just a short walk away from the pretty town centre and the spectacular castle. The weather was lovely for the time of year which enabled us to enjoy afternoon tea on the terrace. Our room had been recently refurbished. We were on an organised coach trip with Galloways who always use this hotel for their trips to Luxembourg.

Arrived early evening as part of a coach tour, hosts were very welcoming when we arrived. Room was very clean, with views of the stunning castle. Food was excellent, no choice on first night, which is understandable, but good choice for the rest of the stay, and served hot despite the number of guests. Excellent location for wandering around the village, and a great terrace for having a sunset drink. Found no problem with the white card system that seems to cause complaints, all prices are clearly shown in the menus. Found the staff very friendly and helpful, and yes, there are hippos, but they are not "dusty", and are a quirky addition. Would definitely recommend staying here, and if you do, the castle and the cable car are a must, with the latter providing a beautiful view of the valley.

On arrival from a coach party led by Travel Sphere having spent 8 hours on a coach from hampshire we were greeted by the owner. Who was more concerned about her carpets getting dirty with the dog mess that was on her pavement outside her hotel getting on her new carpets, that we were completely overlooked as PAYING guests. After queing for 10 mins to get into the two man lift we arrived in our match box room to find no tea or coffee making facilities. The two single beds had no space in between them having been cramed in. With a very old fashioned decor. We were told by travel sphere to hurry and get down for our evening meal as no guests on the coach party could start unless we were all seated down stairs. Dont make the mistake like us of asking how much drinks are as this is obviously frowned upon and on your departure you will be hit with a bill for all drinks which are written on a peice of card that if lost will cost you around 150 euros. Also dont make the mistake of asking for the menu for the day for evening meals as manager/ owner is very abrupt and she "doesnt know what the chef is cooking for that evening". You dont find out until you are all seated and there is no choice!!!!! Breakfast there is a notice to take only 1 napkin and odd looking "sharps bins" to put your waste in. Also bear in mind you will be asked to sit with people you dont know and will have to stay in that seat for the duration of the visit. We went in the winter season where everything is closed apart from a few pubs and restaurants. Also bear in mind very limited transport out of area. None of this is explained from treavel sphere untill you are practically there.

Just to add look out for all the dust ridden hippos scattered around the hotel that aparantly the owner collects!!!!!! Think twice about traveling with travel sphere as their after sales experience is appauling. You will be lucky to get a £50 voucher to use on one of their other "excursions". They dont do cash refunds only gestures of good will. One last comment we felt we were there to meet the owners needs rather than the other way round with everything being a huge effort for them.

An excellent hotel well placed and family run, but our 5 daystay was spoiled by the heavy smoking allowed in the public rooms.I thought EU law had stopped all this. The family members also smoked around their young relatives/friends and the smell and fug was dense at times and followed one into all rooms and the restaurant.The only other gripe was the thoughtless booking of a loud jazz band as Christmas entertainment for the 3 hour celebration meal.Jazz is a selfish choice and the sound was pure indulgence for the musicians themselves.Otherwise the food and service was very good. The staff worked hard to give us a good time.
