The communal spaces in this hotel and the appearance from the outside create a 'modest but reasonably well-maintained' impression. The location is faultless; half way down the island, facing the east coast, amidst Malta's Costa del Sol, Silema but within easy reach of stunning Valetta and inland gems such as Mdina.
Reception staff are friendly and professional. They did not strike me as particularly bad nor particularly good.
My room had 4 beds in it...all to myself! It was therefore of ample size. There was a 14 inch CRT TV in the room in good working order with a reasoable range of channels including BBC World News. The room had a desk, a few small drawers and a large wardrobe. Furniture was functional but old and 'tatty'. There was a window which looked out into an internal ventilation shaft full of builder's materials and cigarette-ends. Decor-wise, the room was unremarkable; neither good nor bad though it had a slightly 'drab' feel to it, probably because there was no natural light.
The bathroom was small, in need of decoration but everything worked,
On cleanliness, the beds were fine and smelt fresh but towels weren't always replaced each day when the room was serviced.
Some odd features...the weird internal shaft mentioned earlier which meant my internal room could have a window which let as much second-hand cigarette smoke in as it did fresh air and a strange sealed-off door between my room and the one next door.
This is a budget hotel. It ain't the Ritz. It has flaws and attracts young, drunk and noisy guests. I wouldn't write it off but I probably wouldn't stay again either; accommodation is incredibly cheap in Malta and a few more Euros, Pounds, Dollars, whatever will buy you an extra star which would probably make a big difference to your holiday experience.
