*I stayed in Room #506 for a week-long all-inclusive visit. I was fairly satisfied with this hotel in all its aspects. In this grade accommodation, you must make allowances. There are cracked tiles, wonky furnishings, stained and well-used fabric, etc. But you never felt it was unsafe or unsanitary. It was just "local colour". There was plenty of hot water, fluffy towels, usable room heater, sufficient coffee-tea. The vast majority of the staff were very nice and courteous; no one was rude. I would be the first to raise the roof if ever given poor service. The food was wholesome, and sufficient -- again, for what you pay, you do not expect Masterchefs to appear.
*It is located in a quiet part of Sliema, a short and facile walk to the main parts of the district. It was early February, and quite wintry, very blowy. Do not expect tropical weather. If you read my earlier review, re the month of May, you will know that Malta is not going to be all-beach weather.
*If you would like a day out, I can give a good reference to Executive Tours, in a hole-in-the-wall at 50, The Strand. I priced quite a few, and this agency was easy on the pocketbook, and did give a value-for-money outing to Gozo.
This time I did not indulge in bus rides to other parts of Malta, but it was obvious the buses were going about their usual busy and well-patronised routes.
*Enjoy yourselves. I hope you don't get a hotel like the New Tower Palace that I reviewed in May, 2005, and that that was a real anomoly. With the economic climate the way it is, I hope tourists are being given more respect. I am going to Malta again in a few weeks, and I am optimistic that with agents like Trip Advisor keeping hotels and restaurants on their toes, things will be enjoyable for us all.
